TN Farm Bureau - doesn't require owning a farm (I live in a subdivision!), and I pay $930/6 months for a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD, 2007 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer, a 1995 Sea Doo & trailer, the Deuce, and a 1969 Holiday Rambler trailer.
Winch > Lockers. Less work to install it, cheaper and probably easier to come by, and FAR more useful. If you're in a position driving and you get a 6 ton 6x6 with just ONE locker stuck (I mean completely immobile, down to the axles, wheels in the air, snow at the windows kinda stuck -- if you...
FWIW, readyman did work on "Lil Rosie" to pressurize the axle housings... I think he said it was around $50 in various air line fittings to "re-create" a fording kit for the axles. Might be worth looking into if you plan on fording some river crossings.
Nice looking truck! The Air-O-Matic is nice, no? It really makes low-speed steering a bit easier... plus, when the truck comes with it, it's a lot easier to swallow the price!
Welcome!
3M insulation tape works wonders for sealing the windows and doors for not a lot of dough. The only place I've got water is a mystery hole around the top left corner of the dash... haven't figured out where it's coming from yet!
I'm staying off of Hurstbourne Parkway for the next couple days -- visiting a client in Hardinsburg tomorrow and working the general area this week. Perhaps we could meet for lunch or something in the next couple days... If not, I am in the area around once every month or two.
I think the 466 would make a great engine for the truck; 600-700 lbs is a good torque range. I agree with the mechanical lockers notion... with lockouts on the front axle, you won't need a selectable locker up there; I'd just put a locker in the front-rear and leave the rearmost open, then put...
I don't think they make heated seats designed for use underwater on a budget. Most likely, it would be a marine/yacht product, and as such, would not be cheap.
Making your deuce capable of handling 30+ inches of water isn't a problem. Doing that while making the cab watertight and comfy...
Another thing to consider -- what about trading the 5th wheel for a bumper pull? If the deuce is going to be the default tow vehicle, this might mitigate some of the engineering issues with the 5th wheel, and would save you from having to cut up the new bed. It's a lot easier to buy a large...
rofl
Only kidding. If you're going for creature comforts, good luck! Personally, I don't know if it would be worth it, considering the 1/2" of cheap foam padding - it wouldn't hold the heat for very long!
Don't know if you'd want to spend additional money, but another consideration if the bed is too high would be a dolly converter. But, man, that would be a LOOOONG combination!
A note:
I don't think you'd want to convert the whole truck to 12 Volts - the benefits of 24 volt in regards to starting/cranking are pretty significant. Plus, you'd have to replace just about everything on the truck, possibly even the wiring (1/2 the volts = double amps).
If you feel...
I would say that you would have a decent pickup with a deuce. I would not count on camping with a 5th wheel with one, though. The bed height is pretty significant (42-48" perhaps?) and without power steering, you wouldn't have fun trying to back into a campsite. Sure, the deuce would yank...
I couldn't see going too much larger on the exhaust on a non-turbo making much difference. You would lose exhaust velocity, and that might drop torque accordingly.
For a turbo, I don't know if you would get too much more out of it; if you managed to get another 2-3 psi out of the turbo, I...
