I have been thinking 4BT. You can get some more HP/TQ with some light mods. Only downside I have really read about is they vibrate more than a 6BT or V8 diesel.
I was more using the example of a plate style versus tube style cooler. Size for size, plate style has historically always been better and why almost all auto manufacturers have move to them. This was a huge thing back in my Baja Bug days. Now if you compare a tube style that is 3x bigger...
Don't go with any tube type coolers. They do not cool nearly well enough at a given size compared to a plate style. Highly recommend B&M coolers!!!

This would be a great size to put in.
Glad you got out and no serious problems. Looks like fun!
I was reading the instructions for the B&M Hi-Tek cooler (plate style with fan) and it specifically says you must have air being pulled through the cooler. You have it mounted so the fan is forward of the cooler, in front of the...
I loved my 12v in my Ram when I had it. Downside from what I have read, it is hard to put a 12v into a stock squarebody 4x4 without a lift. And 12v are heavy! They weigh almost as much as the 6.2/trans/transfer case combined.
I think that TM is wrong. By that method, the smaller orange wire would always be hot. Here is a pic of mine, all the orange wires are on the bottom large lug and the red wire coming from the battery is on the top one.
Just for reference on the 12v side, normal charging voltage is 13.8 to 14.2 volts. 24v side would be 27.6 to 28.4 volts.
Where are you checking your voltage? Is it at the alt output terminal or actually at the battery post? Verify at those two points and they should be within .2 volts. If...
I have been thinking more about this. I had done this on a Jeep Cherokee when I did an SYE kit. Never had a problem with it and I think the Cardan joints are rated for continuous duty but I'll do more research. Biggest downside is the cost of having the shaft redone but I guess if it worked...
Ah, never even thought about all the linkage. Talking to both companies, it seems the 5* operating angle is not recommended as it was recommended to be at 3* or less. Being this is the front u-joint, I am not sure how I would decrease that angle without dropping the back of the GV/transfer...
I had checked my driveline angles and thought they were in spec but after talking to Gear Vendors and the driveshaft shop, it appears they are not. It was too hot this weekend to play with angles but I think I am going to need to drop down my transfer case mount to get the front u-joint in...
I have the 12v version but without the built in controller. In my research, lots of people having failures of the built in one, typically within 6 months. Why I opted to go the route I did. The fan itself works really well and is quiet. Just wouldn't trust the built in controller.
Having been in the hot rod world for almost 4 decades, straight blade fans are VERY noisy. You and everyone around you will know when it is running. Personally, I would look at S blade fans. Most OEM fans have gone this way because of noise issues.
If you want a very high CFM fan, you might...
Hi all,
This past weekend I installed a Gear Vendors OD unit and as part of this I needed to top off the transfer case fluid. It appears it was low as I had to add about 2.5 quarts of the 5 the stock NP208 takes (plus about .5 extra for the additional GV adapter). Well this apparently showed...
I recently moved from a mechanical fan to an electric fan setup in my '48 Chevy Sedan as I needed better cooling at idle and low speeds (think stop and go traffic). I did a ton of research on fans and controllers. There are a lot of fan options out there but for my space and needs, I used a...
Well, I was able to pick up the NP208 adapter from Gear Vendors (they are local to me) and did the mechanical install on June 27th. Got the measurements for the new driveshaft and picked that up from the shop on July 2nd. Spent a few hours on the 3rd and 4th doing in the wiring and fluids and...
