If you would have checked the manual, the fuel pump change is to be done on an engine taken out of the truck. I once changed the fuel pump with the engine installed. As you found out, it is possible, however, a little tricky. So, why to complain about a successful work which was not included...
The 6.2 l Diesel is better than its reputation.
The weak points are:
the injection pump,
the electrics,
the starter.
The engine itself only fails with misstreatment.
You also will fail when mistreated.
Every engine needs an understanding of its function and therefor the propper treatment.
If you...
Year of manufacture? Hmm, between 1962 and 1973 according to my manuals. And they never ever had tail gates. With tail gate the trailer will not float with 250 lbs of payload, even not unladen.

You really do not need the cold idle up. It lifts the engine rpm from 650 to 750. Just start driving without worming up the engine. When the oil pressure warning light is of, the oil is through the engine. So forget it, even at -22°C, due to experiance.

OK, the vehicle is a half truck, M3 probably. The turret is a M47 turret for training / introduction purposes. At least according to the Shielding, the smoke dispenser and the muzzle breake.
It can NOT be a M108, at least the shielding is wrong for that as well as the configuration of the turret...
The engine oil lines to the oil cooler are custom made for the Army by Michelin. New ones are difficult to get. If in trouble, ask your hydraulic shop for help. They have the possibility to make pipes and Hoses and supply addaptor fittings, for on the radiator alu pipes the fittings are no...
Rancho has more than the 5000 series. 5000 series is most common. As far as I remember there is also something awailable in the 7000 or 8000 series.
May be this helps.

To my knowledge there is no alternative available if you do not change the comlete undercarriage of the seats and delete the storage.
Even then it seems hopeless to me to find a seat on the market that will fit into a M37 and support the installation of seat belts. Remember, seat belts are not...
The oil questions are as old as the CUCV Series.
Anyway, any mineral 15 W 40 oil will do it. The API classification stamped on the stick is from the 80's. This oil quality these days is the standard.
Oil filters you will find a big varity in the super markets like Fleets farm market, Walmart and...
M880 Series trucks these days are reare in Germany, the supply is gone.
So some tips for yours.
Did the truck stay outside a lot during its previous live? So you have to check the upper side of your frame rails just there where the gap between the cap and the body is. They tend to rust...
17 V is definately to low. Charge them by an external source. If the are rechargeable, o.k..
Did you check the single battery? May be one is broken down and supplying only 4 to 5 Volts. So this is a dead one. Replace batteries by new ones, for the momentarily good one will die soon.
The system...
As far as I kw, there is no siutaable replacement for the water temperature sensor. The ohm value must fit to the glow plug module. And that is the problem due to experiance.
On the other hand, at 125 F water temp the engine should start without glowing. Are your injectors ok? Correct opening...
This event does not look like siutable for standard MV, however, the modifications make very good impression to me from the technical point of view!
