Be very careful about advancing the IP beyond the marks.
The marks are most often correct.
However if you suspect there off you need to have a timing light set up for diesels, to set to spec then remark.
So many people think you can rotate the pump a little(advance) and your go to go!

You need to remove, charge, then load test both battery's.
And replace as necessary, and always' should replace battery's in pair's when multiple battery's are used.
Messing around with weak battery's in a 24V system is asking for Major problems.
As far as charging issues you said you know...
First remove the green power wire from the GP.
Touch one lead to the GP blade the other to a ground.
Should read full ohm's.

If you use the NaPa site and enter Chevrolet K5 4WD Blazer it shows the same mount as your Auto Zone.
I can't remember if the mount is under the Trans. or T-Case on a Blazer.
All my Iron has the 205 T-Case and the mount is under the case which btw is the same mount as the bell housing mounts on...
As Stated it's Dodge WW2 WC 62 with a home made cab or something grafted on.

Use your kit bolt securely and your good to go.
If unsure of your welding ability find someone.

Your method for checking the coil with the Ohm meter is spot on.
However I disagree about the vent lines.
True they circulate air to remove the gases`as stated, but also cool the coil.
I know for a fact if there not used or incorrectly installed the coil will be short lived.

Makes sure the two Dist. vent lines to the carburetor air horn is hooked up and providing fresh air to the Dist.
These lines must also be connected correctly and not reversed.(disrupts air flow)
These lines are a "Must"
Also I had an issue once with my Voltage regulator causing a higher...
Tank is the same L/R
The sending units are different There's a Left and a Right.
Get a selector valve and switch from LMC or Napa. Mounts on cross member next to the right frame rail. You will also need a OEM bracket, or fab one.
Plumb it in and wire it.
Switch mounts center of dash to the...
