I picked up a new water pump from Rockauto a couple weeks ago. Along with new head bolts and .010 thicker head gaskets. The NA heads took a few dings in shipping right where the fire ring goes so I had to resurface them. I wanted to use studs but $200 for a set was a little over the top. I was...
I got a set of NOS N/A heads from 86hummvw so I won't be having to do any modding to the intake. I'm going to get flamed for not using the turbo but it comes down to costs. I've got a lot tied up in it already. The truck will spend 99% of the time unloaded and on back streets so i'm ok with less...
I finally got my NOS power pack in. I'm stoked. It's time to pull the 6.2 and convert this 6.5 to NA then get it on the road. First thing first. Pull the tranny off and get it up on the engine stand.
White Smoke is unburt fuel. Black smoke is carbon from burnt fuel. You see black smoke from engines that are turned up to make more power. More fuel- more black smoke.
No this is not normal. If the race spins in the bore The bore is worn from a earlier bad bearing locking up and spinning the race in the bore or you have a new race that is out of tolorence. You might need to "mike" the bore and race to see witch one is off. When looking at the bore is the...
The one at the front of the drivers side head is for the idiot light in the dash. The one at the rear passenger side head is for the high idle when cold. The one at the back of the drivers side head by the intake manifold is for the glow plug.
I think cucrus is right. More than likely coolant is puddled into the fiberglass in the muffler. Drive it 10 miles or so to heat enough to evap it out. You can also have some one hold cardboard by the exhaust. Then when it smokes, if it is water/coolant it will make the cardboard wet. You can...
Just checking but do you have the pink wire on the IP? And are you holding the throttle wide open while cranking? At WOT the pump will deliver more fuel and therefore push the air out faster. Yes this process takes forever. CUCVRS it correct. I too have seen the wrong pump installed.
I have used the port at the front of the drivers side head also. But the probe ends up VERY close to the head casting. So when you put the engine under a load the gauge shows the water temp to skyrocket! Then it drops when you let off the throttle. It would peg the gauge when towing my tractor...
Did you crack the lines at the injectors? You will need to with the wire on. This will push the air out at the injectors. When they start seeping fuel, tighten the lines back up and try to start. You can take the wire loose to the glow plugs so they wont drain the batteries while cranking to...
Crack open a Injector, then turn the engine over with wide open throttle. See if fuel bleeds out. You may need to bleed it. Any white smoke while cranking from the exhaust? Is it turning over fast enough?
I would use the gasket plus RTV. These oil pans love to leak. The military used both a gasket and RTV on these. The last owner probally did not have a gasket and used what they had.
