You ever see the size of some of the trucks here in Michigan?
we have some that the tare wt is close to the 80,000 max of most other states! back to the original question. Load it rite, maintain the hauling equipment properly, drive it safely and have fun. oh and take lots of pics!
I will prob catch flack over this but i have hauled many loads on a gooseneck well over 25,000 with my F250 super duty. driven safely its not a big deal but everything needs to be rite! like brakes, tires and laod placement just to name a few.
prob could cut and weld but i dont think i would.
the reason i got the big bar was so i could tow 2 5 tons at one time or a tractor trailer combo with out worry that the bar and ends may fail.
Its really a safety thing with me.

If you go the 2x4 route, might want to consider the hard plastic type. these can be had for $10 or less. plus they wont crawl up on the tire. the end of the frame rail is forward of the rear of the drive tire and this may allow the flap to come in contact with the tire when just using the temp...

if its 17' then the M820 chassis would be perfect.
or just grab any ole 5 ton and strech it a little.
pretty straight forward as its a standard frame.
