What could some of the sources be for non-magnetic metal be in the engine? Pistons, Timing Cover, Bearings, Pistons.... Anybody have any more possibilities?
Like you said, filtration is key. These units do not have any sort of wick in them, do they? I know wicks would not like WMO. I use a blend of WMO and diesel in my H45 heater, but that is a little different animal. One thing to think about is in cold temps, WMO will not flow well cold, so start...
I have always taken good care of the engine since I bought it. I put 30,000 miles on it and it had "23,686" on it when I bought it. So I don't think it was a previous owner kind of thing. I have spin on filters so they filter finer than the originals... but still. It would be fun to tear it down...
I almost think it is from engine timing cover gears hitting a cover or something like that. My reasoning is that it seems like about the size of what a gear could chew off and i think the front cover is aluminum. That's just my guess.
I changed the oil in my Deuce last night with 74M35A2. I pulled the rear plug first, no issues. When I pulled the front drain plug I found the small hole in the drain plug filled with some metal shavings. There were also some in the oil bucket when I checked that after, but not too many. These...
Success! The -012 O-ring worked! I will write a longer post about my findings later tonight. Thank you to all who helped me out! I'm going for a test drive now!:driver:
I agree, it looks like -012 to me also. The o-ring I got on my lunch break is a -012 and is only rubber, not Viton or Buna N. I will see how it fits and go from there. My only concern is that with me using WMO and sometimes 10%-15% gasoline in the system sometimes, I don't know how it will...
So the magic question is: What o-ring equates to it? -012? A -012 I would have to stretch a little bit to get it on, similar how the o-ring was from an original injection pump gasket kit I used before.
Jackpot!.... kind of. I found this information about the size of the o-ring. Now I just have to locate the correct part number and supplier for the o-ring.
The NSN of the o-ring is 2910-292-1464 and the MFR# 10914594
Thank you very much for your research Doghead, I really appreicate it. I will look back through that TM and see where I missed it. I don't recall a list of part numbers in the kit I bought, only sealed packs of gaskets and o-rings. I have gotten other military kits such as the air activated...
Does anybody know the correct size o-ring for the throttle stop shaft on the injection pump? I was told it was a "-013" but that is not the correct one. On my other deuce, I bought the injection pump gasket kit and used the o-ring supplied and it worked like a charm. this "-013" is too thick in...
The "cam latch" isnt bad, but you have to rotate your hand a little in the direction it goes a little bit to make it work better. I agree with flyingvan911, PM is a good thing.
Keep us updated. I bet its a combination with no lubrication and not lifting up on the landing gear to take the weight...
Try lifting up on the landing gear to take the weight off the latch assembly and then try unlocking the latch. Make sure you watch your shins.
Does your have the direct pull up latch or the "cam style" latch? Do you have any pictures of the landing gear?
To best show how to do that it is best shown in the technical manuals. They can be downloaded in the "technical manuals" tab at the top of this page.
Why are you removing the rear cover?
I am in Livonia Michigan and could help if you needed it. Be sure to check all the fluids in the truck before you go. Changing fuel filters wouldnt be a bad idea either if you dont know how they are and if you have the tools. Anyway, I have a tow bar if you got in a jam and were somewhat close...
74M35A2 knows a bunch about starters, no doubt. A great resource! I have a newer style starter I am going to put on my deuce sometime just as soon as I get the other stuff on my "to-do" list done on it. I can't wait!
I have 55,000 on my truck now. When I bought the truck it showed 23,000 on the odometer. I know I put all those 32,000 miles on it in 5 years. I love driving it!
I found a post where a gentleman said the o-ring is a size " -013 " for the fuel control stop shaft.
Edit: I installed the -013 o-ring today for my throttle stop shaft on the injection pump and it is not the correct one. it does work, but when i tighten down the "c shaped clamp" with the two...
Well I did a bunch of stuff to the truck tonight. I wouldn't say i was shotgunning the problem by changing a bunch of stuff, but it went OK. I changed the two O-rings on my hydraulic head and swapped the injectors out for another set I had. Now the set I swapped in were not known to be good per...
