    Bad Ground?

So I drove the 1028 into town to get some Diesel and on the way home the heater stopped blowing. The Gen 1 light didn't come on and my VDO gauge still read 28.5 volts. 5 miles later when at a stop sign the turn signals wouldn't work eather. I got home and checked the heater fuse. It looked and...

    New 6.2L Rebuild, Won't start

Good to hear it's running. You must have my luck. When I buy something it's usually the bad/broken one.

    Voltmeter died

I used a 24V VDO Gauge. The original wires worked with no mods. The light from the original even worked in the new gauge. I checked it with my multi meter. It is accurate. Witch is nice since I've had so many alternator issues lately.

How to spot 1028 vs 1008

If it has a NP205 Transfer Case then It's NOT A 1008. But then only 1028A1's have the 205.

    Coolant spraying out

Yes you should replace it. It is the ground for your 12V side. You have other grounds also but they may give up if carrying too many amps.

    Another Alternator Thread

I think I have a bad stator. What is the best way to test it? Can I ohm it out with my meter?

6.5 on 6.2 Turbo no crossover question

A bigger problem would be that turbos operate from heat/gas expansion, not air flow. You can see this when you add throttle under a load and hear the turbo spool up before the engine responds. Since you would only have half the required heat you would be lucky to make 1 to 3 PSI.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Coolant was leaking between the timing chain cover and the block. I scored a new cover from kascar. So I pulled spares from the shed and replaced the water pump, PS pump, and both alt's with all new parts while I had it apart. I bought 2 new alt's from rare electrical a couple years back. Turns...

    M1008 Not Reaching Running Temp

I ran into the same problem after installing a bigger 4 row rad and a 20 inch six blade fan. Since the coolant is flowing back to the rad from the heater core the engine is getting a dose of cold water that isn't controlled by the thermostat. I installed a ball valve in the heater hose and...

    Questions about an '86 CUCV

Yes these trucks are no where near as powerful as a new duramax. But they can haul and tow quite a bit. Just so long as you don't need to go faster than about 55MPH. There are ways to get a little more power from them but they will never be hot rods. I have the stake sides on mine and on my 101...

    Swap in 6.5 in CUCV???

I just picked up a 94 6.5 TD fresh rebuilt to swap into my M1028. The tag on the valve cover stated 205HP at 3600. Although i'm hoping to stay in the 175HP range after i strip the turbo off. I have a 92 Single plane intake for it. I've ported and polished it and the exaust manafolds hoping for a...

    CUCV Horn relay

Should the horn relay provide power from the orange wire to the black wire then on to the horn button? Would a bad diode prevent the relay from providing power to the black wire/horn button? Thanks

Filter for derale performance 14202 TH400 deep pan with cooling tubes

I am using the stock filter. With no extension. I just keep it at the proper level on the dipstick. It has worked great for 4 years now. The extension is a tube the goes between the filter and the intake hole in the valve body.
