Did you undertake all of the steps called out in the TM testing procedure, to arrive here? I would not lop that plug off and move backwards with butt connectors. Its got a locater on it, get it lined up and twist the collar to retighten.
Do you have the -24 manual for this machine? Its available in the TM forum. PDF Page 55 Starts the troubleshooting steps for "1. ENGINE FAILS TO CRANK.".
The upgrade is a great idea... whomever figured it out originally helped a lot of folks with PM on that poor design. With that said, in my bit of research (part of which was presented above) it could be a better upgrade.
