Its a pain in the ass to change out the $8 seal, but they can dry crack or just be faulty at the time of manufacture. I believe they are prone to fatigue with heat/cold cycles too. Not a bad part to have on the shelf. I've probably had to swap out 3 or so over the years, so definitely not a high...
Supposed to, and can, are different beasts... but clearly its inherently safer to keep it as CECOM says with like sets to remove one less bad decision waiting to happen.
I'm pretty sure you can use the fender box with mixed Genset sizes... It's just a matter of knowing the amperage being drawn at the time of changeover.
Safety dictates that the gensets be equally sized to take any chance out of an overload situation upon changeover... But someone with a solid...
I think you will find either the pump or the double float aux fuel sensor in the tank has shorted (I have had both do this). Take the cover off the fuel tank, and deenergize both. Plug one in at a time, and flip S1 to PRIME + AUX and see which is the culprit.
The military dip tube assembly has a very small, but hidden, hole to relieve pressure... you don't need to do anything else. The way the aux fuel works is that the machine will activate a fuel pump above the fuel tank (in line with the fitting next to the fuel fill) and the machine will refill...
Yeah it is at the factory, but those steps should not need to be taken by an end user if just replacing worn items with new. Just a matter of paying attention to positions of items when removed. I assume due to the block being cast iron, this is just a low tech approach to tolerance variations...
They look like this:
I might have one or two here if you wanted to discuss. Also have a few of these still available: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/5342-00-066-1235-universal-milspec-bung-adapter-and-2-brass-sections-for-aux-fuel-kit-for-mep-generators.208044/
How did you remove the pump in the first place? Ideally you loosen the backing nut on the top FSS stop bolt, and adjust the bolt a little closer to the radiator (so the FSS can articulate more closed). With that done, the notches in the fuel rack armature line up better with the opening in the...
Have you taken the pump out to see if you can compress the spring by hand, to get any fuel out of it? It could be that the pump is stuck compressed, so no matter where the cam lobe falls, its not mechanically pumping.
