How exactly does the M1009 gun rack work?

Don't you know you're supposed to put a real gun in there? Oh wait, SoCal? I'm sorry. Forgot real guns are just about totally illegal there...

    Is that an airsoft gun?

    M1009 Hydrogen generator

What about possums? Either way, I'm sure it'd be better for the engine than used paint thinner...

How exactly does the M1009 gun rack work?

Keep in mind when these trucks were made the primary small-arm for the U.S. military was the M16. And M16 means a 20" barrel with an M16 length hand-guard and full butt-stock. Not a civvie AR-15 with a 16" barrel and an M4 hand-guard and butt-stock.

    M 1028 or 31 with a Petrol engine??

The M1031 was single-wheel with a NP205 (cast iron case) transfer case. This was the cab and chassis version. Most got made into contact trucks with a big boxy workshop on the back. Some (like mine) got converted into M1028A1's. All this entailed was adding a pickup bed to the back. The M1028A2...

    Diy steering box brace

True, but he's got a 1028. I don't think it gets much heavier duty than that. Definitely worth it if you're running big honkin' tires, but if you're like me and running tiny little rink-a-dink stock tires, a grand plus can be better spent elsewhere. P.S. Good to see you're posting back up in...

    Does a 1031 converted into a 1028A1 count?

    M1009 electrical cleaning

Small screwdriver. Like micro screwdriver small. Most of the electrical connectors on the CUCV's have some sort of plastic plug and the actual contact inside that. If you look, there's usually a small tab on the actual contact that you can bend ever so slightly and CAREFULLY to pop the contact...

    Best source for exhaust?

If you're talking headers then: Headers for, Chevy, Corvette, Olds, Buick, Camaro, Firebird high performance automotive and marine engines. If you just want the pipes from the manifolds, then you're more than likely looking at buying a complete exhaust system. Best priced one I could find, minus...

    Welding with 24 volts?

Oh of course, because if McGyver can do it, it MUST be true... Kinda interesting how he reversed the polarity on the weld side...Wonder if this would cause any problems seeing as how the CUCV is a 12/24V system. Made the mistake once of hooking the rear battery up wrong in the truck. First and...

    Welding with 24 volts?

Read a good article: Dual Battery Installation and have seen this a few other places. Apparently, you can weld with car batteries. From what I've read so far, 3 batteries in series works best, but 2 in series (Hmm...where have we seen this?) will work in a pinch. I've even gone as far as...

Glo plug help in Northeast Maryland

I'm in the same boat, but when I did it, I swear I was tempting Murphy. I think that was the ONLY repair job/maintenance I've ever done that went better than expected.

Glo plug help in Northeast Maryland

I did mine a couple months ago and they're easy. Think spark plugs on a gasser easy. Here's what I used: 1. PB blaster 2. Craftsman ratchet (the smallest one I had) with a deep well socket (can't remember the exact size, I just tested to fit. Try to use a regular hex socket if you have it.) 3...

    Hissing sound, trans related?

Eh, about the only time I could hear it over the engine was at idle. My dad and I did stick an automotive stethoscope (no, I'm not making this up. They really make them and they really are an amazing tool) on it one night and you could definitely tell it was noisy. I grabbed the alt out a month...

    Headlight switch: What the. . . ?

Yeah, I'm one of those young dang whipper-snappers. Honestly, I don't think I've ever been behind the wheel of something that DIDN'T have a separate dimmer switch. Even my first car (a '90 Cavalier-not much newer than my truck, an '86) had a separate switch. I kinda like it though. My...

    Hissing sound, trans related?

I doubt it would be the alternator bearings. I had my GEN2 rebuilt earlier this year and the front bearing was pretty loud. It was your typical noisy/bad bearing sound: gritty, scratchy, metal-on-metal, but hissing it was not.

    Headlight switch: What the. . . ?

I had been having this problem for a week or so. Sometimes when driving with the headlights on, I wouldn't be able to see my gauges due to the gauge light not working (or so I thought.) While I hadn't really troubleshooted the problem, I was still running through my head what it could be: Bulbs...

    CDR Valves: turbo vs non-turbo?

I read a good article a while back about the installation of a Banks turbo kit on a 1009. IIRC, the CDR was not a problem/addressed. I don't think it would be that big of an issue since from what I've heard, the Banks kit will push 10PSI of boost if you're lucky.

    Starting problems with 6.2L

Was wondering why there was a sensor in there...Definitely sounds like a fuel problem to me. I've got my glow plug system running like a champ. Coldest its been here this year is something like 0 degrees even. I don't run a block heater or even anti-gel stuff. Usually the truck fires in 2 or 3...

    Rears ?

The full float 14 bolt is what is used in the bigger trucks (the 1008's, 1028's, etc. which of course, are built on 1 ton frames) From what I've seen, the semi float 14 bolt was typically used in 3/4 ton trucks. Easiest way to tell them apart is the hub assembly. In the first pic, you can...
