Receiver Hitch and Civvy Trailer Wiring

Cheers mate; $15 for the brake controller at the same salvage yard I got the hitch at. In fact, it was so inexpensive I picked up 2 in case this one didn't work ;-)

Receiver Hitch and Civvy Trailer Wiring

Bingo - I wanted the 12v anyway, so this was a good solution to both issues, and surprisingly simple and affordable. Shamless plug for TM America - his alt brackets are an elegant, inexpensive option that work great. I have heard many times that the deuce is a very common frame width and...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Finished installing the civvy hitch and trailer hookups, including trailer brakes - woot! That one took some time but I am excited to have it done. details here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/83808-receiver-hitch-civvy-trailer-wiring.html

Receiver Hitch and Civvy Trailer Wiring

I finally buttoned up my receiver hitch and civvy trailer wiring. I opted to install TM America's 12v alt brackets. That was very straightforward and an inexpensive option. I love to have virtually endless amounts of 12v power on tap. The hitch was a junkyard takeoff, rated for 5k lbs. Not...

    Help with random things

I made my own replacement gasket for this, just used some generic gasket material from a local box-auto store. Cheap, easy, quick.

    Ouverson locker pricing

You get the most bang for your buck out of front lockers. Having lockouts makes it a no-brainer (imhop.) You can have a fully locked diff off-road, but keep your on-road manners when on pavement. When I have the funds I will have both axles locked on my bobber, I will probably use an ARB or...

    Deuce noses...

Air horn vs 24v electric. I have the electric and lust after an air horn. My truck sounds like a prius when I hit the horn. It's embarassing.

    Brake troubles

Gear oil in the knuckle is usually caused by a bad axle shaft seal. If you're tearing it down to the cork key, I would just do the job all the way and replace the shaft seal as well. The cork (or lack thereof) can cause leakage, but that little piece of cork is actually the original factory...

    Clutch Issue???

Do the rest of the gears work? Can you take off in first? If your clutch is out, you will likely have trouble getting through ALL of your gears. My tranny is tempermental, when the oil is cold I can't get it into 4th gear. X2 on checking your linkages, there are measurements for proper...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Finally installed my trailer electrical connectors and converter box. It's mounted under the bed, and plugs into the standard deuce trailer connector, converts everything to 12v and standard RV 7 blade and civvy 4 pin and 7 pin connectors. Now I can haul almost any civvy trailer I want!

    deuce wiper blades

Eagle - that website is AWESOME, and a great way to waste some time on a slow work day. My personal fav's? The kit to convert your car to a tank, and the radiator insulator to prevent all the loss of power through heat loss.

    front axle boot HELP!!!!

I didn't think to use vice grips (aua) but instead cleaned the groove REALLY well with brake cleaner, put the boot on and tightened a wee bit at a time. Checking VERY frequently all the around and sliding it back into position when it had started to come out. It took time but worked just fine...

    are bobbed deuce shocks necessary?

I bobbed mine using the M105 springs with the helpers. I ran the truck for a week or more without the springs before installing them (I used the springs from the trailer.) The truck drives better with the shocks than it does without them. Ride quality was only half the reason I installed...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

That trailer looks good on there. Do you have tire rub issues? Looks awfully tight in there.

Need help with a technical problem

If it's running, $2k is a good price for that truck, at least on the west coast. 2x on the don't scrap the bed! I would also start with filters, that was my first thought when you described your symptoms - and good rule of thumb is to go with gimp's suggestion when he makes one. Also - $100...
