I did this same setup - using TM America's alt brackets and absolutely love it. I used 4 ga ground wire, everything else is 10 or 12 ga. 12v doesn't put out a ton of power, so you don't need to get crazy on the wire size.
I ran switched power to a 24v relay to turn the 12v on, so I don't...
Is the tranny input shaft hardened steel? I thought I recalled reading somewhere it was. If that's the case - it goes into a bronze pilot bushing on the flywheel. I think that's the route I would go for the same reason previously listed - if one of them is going to wear, I want it to be the...
Yeah, it would be easier to shorten a dropside bed vs convert an M105. Honestly though I would feel bad cutting short a dropside, those seem to be in short supply and lots of folks will use them in their original configuration. The other reason for me to not do that is that I already have the...
I was thinking I would cut the sides right where they attach to the bottom, and put in a 1/8" plate that would lay horizontal, flat against the bottom of the trailer and the side would weld onto it, then the hinges would attach that flat plat to the bottom. Not sure how clear that is, I've...
Has anyone ever converted their M105 bobbed deuce to a dropside? I keep eyeballing mine, and have started running through how I would do it in my head. I can't be the first to think of this, and am hopeful someone else has looked at it and either done it successfully or figured out why it's...
X2 - I have done fairly significant research on this, and the running undercurrent from folks has been that those who prepare really well get good results. The ones that skimp on the prep have been less pleased with the outcome.
X2 - if you have a welder, weld a nut onto the stripped out head and switch to a socket wrench.
That's worked every single time for me, albeit in different applications.
Resurrecting a thread here: I have been thinking about this one for some time and while in Napa today found an ad that they are selling the 1 gallon kits for $60. On top of that Herculiner is providing a $25 mail-in-rebate. So you end up spending $35 for the 1 gallon kit, a smokin' price on...
Ahhhh, ta-ta's. One of the many unspoken reasons we love our trucks.
Congrat's on your purchase, and welcome to the site. My recovery was a 15-16 hour/800 mile drive with my brother and an M105 in tow. One of my greatest trips ever, even though I didn't get your, errrrr, 'scenery'.
500 gallons?!?!? It's not the weight I would be worried about. Here in Kalifornia that would be $2250 to fill right now. Yikes.......
If you're not competely sold on the M105, you should look at one of the ammo trailers (M332) as already mentioned. Much lower to the ground, and easily...
Installed a new brake light switch, I have brake lights again!
Also, not directly ON my deuce, but definitely related - I picked up a 55ga drum and installed a water heater element in preparation for processing waste oil to burn in the deuce. This was surprisingly cheap too; $20 for the...
Looks good so far. I found the easiest way to remove the rivets was an acetylane torch, blew them right out nice and clean and only took a few seconds each.
Not sure what your final plans are, but I recommend thinking about moving the bed back a bit from the cab. I wish I would have - that...
Nice recovery - glad you kept the fingertip. Looks like some good pats on the truck for sure. Let me know when you get ready to sell off bits; dibs on the heater, front bumper step and air intake with extended elbow;-)
I ordered the parts from McMaster-Carr: 7170K11 (relay) and 7122K19 (socket).
I thought about this quite a bit before the installation, and decided that the cab space is at a premium, so I used a junction box designed for the elements, and rubber-mounted it to the frame. It should be...
