On my CJ5 with 232, I went with the Petronix electronic kit to install in the stock distributor and got rid of the Carter YF carb and replaced it with a Weber.
I tried to rebuild the Carter and it didn't run much better. From the research I've done, the Carter is temperamental and not a very...
I picked up a Mack truck today that came from the TN National Guard. While it's not a standard MV, it was used by the NG. I needed a big truck to pull overweight loads over less than ideal roads and this thing should fill the bill. I have no idea what the NG used this truck for.
Mack RD822sx...
Just set your max bid and walk away from the computer and check back the next day to see if you've won. With a proxy bid, there's no reason at all to sit there way past close time pecking away, one bid at a time.
Personally, I'd rather the 15 min rule not be there but there's nothing ethically wrong with it.
Long before the internet there were live auctions. I've never been to one of them where they stop selling on a item at a set time. They stop selling when the bidding stops. That's basically what the...
We are having the MV show at the Dickson,TN airport again this year on Nov. 7th. Here's a link to last years thread- http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?131211-MV-show-at-Dickson-TN-airport-Nov-8&highlight=
Everybody that can make it is welcome. Even if you don't bring a MV, come by and...
Once you see the difference in the door openings, there's no mistaking a cj5 for a cj7. All cj5s have a rounded back door opening and narrow at the bottom. The cj7 is pretty much as wide at the bottom as it is at the top and goes straight up in the back. The cj7 didn't come about until 1976.
I've got a '74 cj5 that I have militarized. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?136949-My-M38A2-%28CJ5%29&highlight=M38a2
I'd love to see a pic of the data plate the military CJ5 used so I can get one reproduced.
What kind of bolt is that? It's definitely not a stock shear pin.
Due the the extensive testing gringeltaube has done in the past, a actually use a brass bolt in mine. According to G's testing, the brass bolt offers a touch more strength over the stock pin but not enough to tear anything up.
I was just a kid but I remember when a train propane tanker car exploded near here in a populated area. Several people died and it would have been a lot worse but they had already evacuated most people in the area before it went off...
I highly doubt it. While I don't know state law in all 50 states, it's common to let the counties and cities impose whatever codes they see fit. Then you also have neighborhoods that can ban together and make their own rules that are enforceable civilly.
The code in my county is that every...
I know a guy that used to be our local city codes enforcer. He told me that they never would go out looking for violations but if somebody complained they had to follow the law and enforce the code.
If you are in violation of code, I wouldn't be to hard on the codes man. If somebody did in fact...
I once saw a tire blow up while a guy was airing it up. It blew him back against the wall and I was standing on the other end of the shop (about 30' away). I was standing next to a window and the sudden pressure increase in the shop blew out the window. Luckily, all the guy airing the tire up...
That's the first time I've ever seem MVs specifically written into the code. They pretty much have you with that wording.
Most of the time they try to lump MVs into the commercial code which you can sometimes fight and win, sometimes not.
I know a lot of people just don't have the room but the absolute best way to preserve your truck is to build a shed to park it in. If it can't get wet, it won't rust nearly as bad.
My first thoughts were that the driver saw the bridge out, thought he go go off the embankment and ford the river, but got in over his head when he hit the water's edge. Going back and looking at the pics, you may be right.
The load he was carrying kind of looks like some sort of sandbag...
I've worked within the power system on various projects. After seeing what all it takes to get power to your home, it's a wonder they can do it a cheaply as they can. From what I've seen, these are not big greedy power companies trying to milk the consumer for all they are worth. They are...
As far as the current "grabbing you" and not being able to let go, lower voltages are actually worse than higher voltages. Higher voltages will blow you away but that gives you a whole host of other problems.
A friend of mine was working on a job site, a excavator knocked over a pole, and the...
