Cleb, it would be simple to tell if it had a rebuild in the last 25 or so years as it should have Dextron in it. If it has motor oil in it, it is either not rebuilt or it was switched back by somebody that believed that old "30 weight motor oil is best" lie. They also may have been using good...

Thanks Harold, but it looks like crap now. Jane keeps saving up money to finish it and I do something silly like buy my Shelby and HEMTT. Shouldn't the shop and garage be finished BEFORE you fill it with crap? Someday it will be a nice place to work, as it is now, you take your life in...

    NO power at all!!

That's OK, the 6.2 Diesel doesn't make any power either. Sorry, I couldn't resist, I have a 6.2 myself.

You could not GIVE me a Memphis rebuild, I would not take the time to even install one! I do mine on a 4 post truck lift with a telescoping tranny jack and it's still not worth the effort. I'd buy their parts but their rebuilds are done by untrained monkeys, IMAO.

    Scary 60's

Well, they could be used, but only for crossing water and landing equipment to shore. Need to go over a mountain range or even big hills? They are done. They are not suitable replacement for an aircraft. As far as operating cost, their fuel consumption once airborne is a pittance compared to...

Stuck deuce and a couple hrs of work.

Yeah, I've thought about it, but they mounted the winches on the side and I've yet to see one for sale. They are really quite BIG! With the side mount they could pull either direction but it seems like a PIA with all the cable guides required.

Stuck deuce and a couple hrs of work.

I'm 6'2" and it only almost reaches my shoulder.

Stuck deuce and a couple hrs of work.

Ha ha ha, there is only one of those ground anchors like that and it is sitting under my wife's Ferret. Next time you're over here Scott, ask to see it, it is REALLY impressive! Glad you didn't 'splode a chain! As mentioned above, use a BIG effing strap, MUCH safer and stronger than any chain...

So, it's Dave's fault (Reo) that we haven't seen the pictures. I'm interested to see if it does have the manual transmission or not. nopics

    Scary 60's

There was a lot of interest in those when all the info came to light about 19 years ago (Aviation Week and Space Technology, June 1992). It was also picked up by other consumer science magazines. The principle was sound but the limitations were numerous. You didn't have to deal with induced...

    MEP-002A or MEP-003A

Those numbers sound great George! JBK, that is easy for separate and independent loads but not for a house or shop. You'd need to assign a master generator and a control that would allow any other generators be slaved to it. Not only would you need to balance the voltage but they must must...

    MEP-002A or MEP-003A

Living in your area with neigbors so far away, even a gas turbine genset would't be bad (feeding it fuel would be). The bad part would be purchasing the large cables to get power to the house and shop if you had Detroit, or like powered one. If you had one behind a small berm 200' from the...

2011 Wa State Mini Rally #5

Thanks Dave, it was our pleasure helping out and you were VERY kind yourself, helping us safely crane our crap out of the 2nd floor of the garage! I'm sure you're swamped with work and your continued great efforts on your house, you had done an amazingly good job on it when we were last there...

    MEP-002A or MEP-003A

Welders are current hogs, no doubt! Since I don't have three phase available, when I don't need the generator power my house, 99% of the time, it will provide my 3 phase needs. I only need to power a CNC mill and a few other possible items once in a while. Since my shop is for my personal...

    MEP-002A or MEP-003A

After MUCH consideration and a realistic look at my power needs I chose the 003A. I had to resist the "bigger is better" mantra that I tend to follow, in Diesel generators it is NOT the case. Not only will a larger capacity cost you more in fuel (YES, even when it is running a lower output)...

2011 Wa State Mini Rally #5

I bet that would be fun in a parking lot full of Prius and Chevy Volts! I remember that the older ones on the mountain passes here could be shut down just AFTER they had demolished a passenger compartment (and its occupants).

M211's were all automatics. With a properly installed manual, it would make it a FANTASTIC truck . . . for a gasser. It would never be powerful or fast but should be VERY dependable and a pleasure to drive. I just love the look of them, looks wise they are my favorite. The CCKW was the WWII...

Thanks Firehound, I've missed a post or two I guess. I can't do the weekend of the 22nd, Jane will veto that for sure, its her birthday weekend. I'm willing to do it without the owner, just some SS member help, but I'll let the owner and others decide the actual plan. :lost: :D I'm only...

2011 Wa State Mini Rally #5

First things first, THANK YOU for all your prayers and kind wishes! Jane is doing much better so she only feels I like I ran her over with the HEMTT once. Yesterday and the day before it was more like I took a couple of hot laps at her expense. Second, it looks like I could haul the M45 back...
