    Oil cap

If you run the cap for a gas engine, you build up too much crankcase pressure. Then seals start to leak.

    New M35 owner in UK

Hey Richard, Welcome aboard. We'd love to see photos of your truck - this group is very visual. Matt

    Making Oil Change Easier

Agree that these 5 gallon barrel pumps are REALLY great when you're changing your gear oil in the transmission, transfer case, or differentials. They pump 90W oil easily and you just hook the little spout into the fill hole of whatever you're filling. I haven't used one for engine oil yet...

    M35 Gear Shifting correct

I always figured it is easier for me to replace a clutch than to rebuild a transmission.

    High altitude 6.2 operation

I had my M1009 pulling an M416 trailer, both quite loaded, to over 10,000 feet a couple of years ago. There were some steep highway and dirt road grades up into the mountains and the Blazer smoked a lot and did not have a lot of power, but it got us to our camp OK. Your M1008 has better...

    M35 Gear Shifting correct

Yes, this works great on an 800 series 5 ton as well. I used to do this on an M816 wrecker.

    M35 Gear Shifting correct

You can shift the transfer case from low to high and then shift from 5th to 4th with just one push of the clutch. Try it and you will get the hang of it. Watch the video and you'll see this is what the driver does.

    M35 Gear Shifting correct

I just watched the video more closely and noticed that his speedometer is either broken or disconnected.

    M35 Gear Shifting correct

Whether upshifting from 5th low to 4th high or downshifting from 4th high to 5th low, always shift the transfer case first. This is the way I was taught to do it.

    Trailer light adapter

I did the same thing as Ken_86gt about nine years ago as a temporary way to tow a car trailer with my M1009. I am still using my temporary setup.

    Loading the deuce

Loading on a wet day just adds to the fun. Good chaining job, by the way!

    Trailer Light Problems

Not to hijack, but ida34 is correct. I found out the hard way, while I was under the vehicle, that my 1984 M1009 uses 1983 6.2L engine mounts.

    Trailer Light Problems

I agree with Doghead. With a bad ground, all kinds of weird things happen with trailer lights.

Salute to the U.S. GI, pics

Great photos - thanks for posting!

    Air Disc Brakes

Sounds like a good idea, at least in theory. The discs will probably dissipate heat better and the are largely self clearing of mud and water, unlike drums.

How to post a general question

Go to a specific forum and you should see the start a new thread option.

Ok, its hot.. anyone put ac in a 5 ton?

Don't drive during the hottest part of the day, if possible. Oh wait, Houston, it's probably almost as hot at night as it is during the day.fat lady sings

    backing up in low

That's my theory too. Why else would they design the transfer case to act like a two-speed auxiliary transmission?

    backing up in low

I use low range any time I am backing into my parking spot and anytime I am driving at speeds under 20 MPH or so.

Lockouts on the deuce. Wow big diff.

My dad did this on a smaller scale on his M37. It made the truck much nicer to drive. I'm saving up for a set for the M35A2.
