They may also not be legal in your state! Texas requires fenders that cover the tires, with no more than 1" of tread showing, on vehicles built after a specific date (1960 I think???), that MAY apply to trailers too. I have a friend who runs an inspection station, I will ask him and report back.

I installed the shock in my trailer and MAN what a PITA! The trailer now stops smooth and straight, and I am happy, but I don't ever want to do that job again! It took me and Buckmaw to get everything back together, three hands and some cussing...
I THINK Texas law requires the safety chains to be attached to the frame/bumper/receiver housing, not the hitch itself. Required or not I think that is the safest way so they will catch the trailer if the hitch breaks. I have seen several of those raised, slide in pintle hitch adapters twisted...
