    Winch hook capacity

You know, when John Waller was helping with the Dingo Recovery a few weeks ago, I seem to recall when I was re-stowing his winch hook that his hook and chain on his M818 were a LOT larger than the hook/chain are on my M35.

    More winching ops questions

Try Army Tents.com. I think they've got a bunch of the double snatch blocks. Becareful with a double snatch block. You're double loading that anchor point by running multiple parts of cable through that same pulley.

    Best Source for CUCV alternators?

What's the best source for good CUCV alternators? A fella I know is looking for a few sets. East coast or Central plains states is closer to the fellow than west coast.

Just got a ticket need help!

NC Deuce, first I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV. Were I in your shoes I'd do the following things. 1. Call the State DOT folks, start asking detailed questions about what is and is not a Commercial Motor Vehicle. Document what they say. Then call another office, ask the same...

Scottc, If I send you my address will you send me $100? Since you're so free and glib with other people's money.

Just got a ticket need help!

Diced MAn, are you familiar with NC state law on this or are you just shooting from the hip? I'm not a lawyer, but when I was last researching the CDL issues in various states for the two bills I had my state senator propose in my state on my behalf, I found that NC explicitly exempted...

Wrecker anchor spades on a M818

WWII Canadians had a different way of doing this that's pretty nifty. Winch Scotches. There are hooks that are on the frame for the cables/chains to attach to for these. You plant them on the ground in front of the wheels, hook them up with the chains for the correct length, then drive up on...

Combat Rescue Device - Rat Claw

swbradley take some good highquality chains, link them together with a quicklink of lower rating. You can force a failure that way. A hammer close quicklink or a screw closed quicklink.

Saracen mk2, buying one for cheap.

Here's a video I just uploaded that explains some of the mechanical principles.

Saracen mk2, buying one for cheap.

Northwoods, the transmission isn't an automatic. It's a manual, but the british nomenclature is that it's a Self Changing gear box. If handled correctly the transmission is in fact stronger than a typical gear box. First Rule: Don't slip the clutch, it's not a clutch, it's a gear change pedal...

    M35a3 / m35a2

I suspect from what I understand of rebuilds that for 3 trucks, you'd have 1 truck's worth of servicable parts that were withing a tight spec for the new trucks.

ISSPRO Turbocator Pyro / Boost Gauge

I need to add a pyro, but I want one with the green/yellow/red zone's for FAST determinations of temperature at a glance vs having to stare and focus on the gauge. The gauges on a duece are hard to see at night. I wish the panel was angled up towards the driver a bit more than it is.

    Opposed Piston/Opposed Cylinder 2-stroke engines

One other thing is that this looks like it would be a very compact engine design ideal for armoured vehicles where space is at a premium. The British FV432 and Abbot SPG's both use an opposed piston setup, the Rolls Royce K60.

818 now with turbo and pics.

I've seen this truck in action. I've heard it driving behind me and it screams. The exhaust note is very much there and even with my windows closed on my car, I can hear the exhuast note.

    Thanks to J-Waller!

Me and a bunch of other guys were at a WWII Reenactment over in Camden, SC. Saturday morning, the dingo that is owned by a friend of mine had a drive line failure down in the woods. One of the wheels was locked up in the drive line area for that wheel station (bevel box or Tracta Joint). Suffice...

    Punctures

Taking a rear dual off works as long as you're not overloading the other tires on that axle by doing so. I carry a spare 1100 in my truck bed since I added a 2nd fuel tank. I also carry a spare flap, 2 spare tubes and tire breakdown tools for roadside repairs.

    Bows for a Deuce

I bought some dimensional poplar lumber that would fit in the pockets and corners and used that. Cheaper than oak, not as strong BUT just if not more flexible. Worked so far for 4-5 years so far.
