I have been working on building a crane for the back of my M1078 until I can buy the actual one that goes in the back of the FMTV, It breaks down into 3 pieces so one person can put the parts in the back and assemble it in place. I still have some more gussets to create for additional strength...
Randy, looking forward to seeing your brush guard. I will call you this week to see about coming out this next weekend. I have been tossing around the idea of a light bar on my truck. Hopefully you will be still bending tube this weekend, as I have never done that yet and would like to see...
When the hi/low shelter first came out on auction I wanted one, but they were all in the Ohio. After shipping they would be quite expensive. I look forward to your build.
Have you seen these hardtops for the M1078 & M1082s - http://www.amtechcorp.com/product.php
2/8/2017 update
Here are a few recent photos of the inside with some additional trim installed, and partially completed underneath support brackets that attach the the existing holes in the bed that had the D-rings installed. I also have added spaces in the center of the 2" x 6" steel tubing...
Update to the M1082 camper build
Work completed
I have actually been doing a lot of work to get it ready for the 26th Arizona Military Vehicle show this weekend, but have not had a chance to post. I will take photos this weekend of the progress I have made. Some of the things that have been...
Yes, The wheel wells are squared inside. I will be trimming them back as you said and building storage boxes. Removable is good, so I can remove them and still pick the box up with a forklift if needed.
Somewhere I had seen a FMTV that came out of the military with a seat mounted sideways above the storage box area giving you four seats in the cab. Your legs would have to be flat on the floor. But for short distances may not be to bad if you had a cushion on the floor. If you are building a...
I did read about someone else purchasing this kit, and some of the filters were wrong. I would look at the FMTV Parts Spreadsheet on here, as it has all the correct numbers. Or wait till your truck arrives and verify some of the part numbers. I would definitely recommend ordering the Protection...
M1082 Camper conversion update
Here are a few updated photos (before and after outside paint & interior). The next few weeks I will be welding support framework that will bolt to the Bed, and to the underside of the body. The mount will sit in the middle of the trailer and allow the weight of...
Thank you for taking the time to draw up the plans for the tool. Since the caps are not readily available, I will have my machinist make the tool for now. Your new method is definitely a more precise way of getting these measurements. I will also try to have something like that made with...
Nick, It should come out rather easy since you left good access to the top. Hopefully everything goes well for you on the removal of the transfer case. This weekend I am busy, but if there are any additional things I can help you with next weekend, let me know.
Planetary gear setup tool - clearance check
Steve6x6x6 - could you draw up the dimensions for your tool you used for the Planetary gear clearance check? I would like to get one made prior to tearing apart my noisy front axle. A quick sketch would be great if you do not mind.
I was changing my timing cover gasket today because of a slight oil leak, and had to remove the fan, and harmonic balancer. The balancer had to come out due to one of the bolts behind the pulley being to long. Glad I did as the 4 bolts you show in the photo above where loose. I was tight, the...
