A determined thief will end up with your stuff even if they have to airlift it off your property. The best you can do is make it so much trouble for the amateurs that they go looking for easier pickin's.
It's a fact that diesels will start without batteries but they won't start without fuel...
The series of holes is just for weight reduction. I made a die set that telescopes and has a male and female angle cut into it. The top punch is dropped into a hole made by a 1 5/8" hole saw. It's then set into the bottom die and the two with sheet metal piece captured in between are squeezed in...
Someone is always asking about interior lights for their deuce or five-ton.
What to use, where to mount them, etc.
Here's a light bracket assy. I made for the baby HEMTT and wanted to share the concept/design.
The baby HEMTT's interior light is stuck way up high in the center of the cab's back...
The cable ends are soldered in the pins. Study the plug end closely first but if I remember correctly there are some inside retaining clips that, when removed, allow you to shove the rubber inner piece out of the metal shell (don't remember if it comes out to the front or to the rear). Once...
Cundupa, Flyingvan911 is right. We'd see the NS power in Roseville occasionally and the long hoods were the leading end. They were SD-45s if I remember but unlike our SP power, both the long and short ends were high hood-- maybe for a steam generator?.
If I remember correctly; some were even...
Maddawg,
The locomotives you're talking about aren't very good for reverse operation.
True, diesel-electrics will go every bit as fast in reverse as they will forward but with the cab on one end and a long hood in the way, they're hard to see around when backing up unless you have a crew member...
That Alco's one of two at jamestown (Railtown 1897 S.H.P.). We've got one in our shop ready to be cut up. These are miserable to work on since they were designed as a throw-away. Other than minor maintenance and servicing, all the major components are inside a welded-together car body. EMDs and...
I picked these up a while back and would like to find more. Anybody recognize them or know the application?
MFR is 6T922 (Moody Precision Supply)
NSN looks like it's 12342403 but a search just shows "Item cancelled without replacement".
Brake lights indicating you're stopping is a more important and immediate message than anything the flashers may convey.
During braking the lights are on solid to pass that warning along.
Probably just a fluke of the wiring that everything goes solid while brakes are applied.
I put NATO slave cable receptacles under each walkway and decided to put a third back by the tailgate so I can slave without having to go through a lot of gyrations to get close enough to the other vehicle.
The rain has me inside today so I've been cutting stencils and decided make one to...
I downloaded "Cutewriter". It installs itself like a second printer.
To use; find the .pdf page(s) you want to post, e-mail, etc. and click "print". When the print box opens up, select cutewriter and then "print". At this point it'll ask if you want to save. Click yes and a location to save to...
How about plumbing in an air dryer (Bendix has several in their catalog)?
If moisture never gets past the dryer, you have nothing to worry about draining.
Multiple deterrants are the way to go. Batt switch, fuel cut-off and chaining the steering wheel are good places to start. You can't keep thieves from trying but you can make it hard enough for them to move on to easier pickins'.
Problem nowadays is that the little bastages will vandalize what...
Touching up CARC with any non-CARC paint will leave areas that'll fade and become more noticable with time. One well-known brand in rattle cans was notorous for turning pink after a few years.
Although not a big concern for us stateside MV operators; anything not CARC will stand out like a fish...
