I haven't used it at all yet! I have looked for the socks before and I'm actually considering selling the entire filter pot because I never could find any socks or new screens.
Its the filter unit off of the beta tank fuel pump. I bought one off of GL and it didnt have the socks either.

Either purge the tank with argon or fill it completely with water and you shouldn't have a problem welding it.
Of the 580,000 results from google on thingamajig, that still doesnt tell us exactly what it is. Take a picture of what your setup is on your truck so we can get a better idea of what we're working with.
If you want to replace an alternator that putting out 13-14V go ahead, I would worry about...
Its a 1947-49 CJ2A or CJ3A grill. MBs and 1945-46 CJ2As had inset lights, 1947 and later were surface mount.

Thats a 12 volt marine deep cycle battery, here's an actual 24 volt battery http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/rg24-20.php but at $620 for only 225 CCA, I'll stick with two 1000 CCA group 31s for half the cost.
Park it inside a heated garage, install 20 block heaters, move someplace warmer, spray an entire can of starting fluid into it, etc.
Joking aside, I would first check to see if the glow plugs are getting power then check the solenoid. Did you hear the glow plugs cycling?
From what I can tell its a Willys CJ3A body on a CJ3B frame with the F-head engine and dual front/rear pto. The winch is a common option if not original. The hanging pedals are not original, stock pedals were mounted to the frame.

I have a 12' high x 16' wide slider on our barn and it fit a deuce no problem. If you have the money buy a garage door instead of a slider, ours can be a pita in winter.
