Here are your RPM's at given speeds in 3rd gear (ratio 1:1 motor/trans) with 4.56's gears and 32 inch tires, the governor is supposed to start letting you know it is there around the 3400rpm mark:
3600=75.6
3500=73.06
3400=70.98
3300=68.89
3200=66.8
3100=64.72
3000=62.63
2900=60.54

I didn't buy the heater core, Lawrence of Arabia did. As for taking the old one out and installing the new one, it was kinda a pain, but removing any heater core is a pain especially when trying to get at the hidden bolts inside the heater box and bolts that are tucked up under dash. Plus the...
Jeff is not selling it, I run an auto repair shop and I have done quite a bit of work on his military collection. The TM shows the truck to be an M886. Not sure on the axle, I thought it was a dana 60 but I haven't measured the front cover yet.
I have the info wrong here, if you have an NP205 with a fixed yoke and your installing an NP208 then the drive shaft will have to be shortened and a slip yoke added, if you have an NP205 with a slip yoke tail and your installing an NP208 then the drive shaft should be the same length. If your...
I have done a lot of these swaps, the front and rear drive shafts should not have to be changed if the turbo 400 had an np208, the drives hafts are the same length. If it has an NP205 then the rear will have to be lengthened and the front shortened.
You can find the find the filter base and all the O-rings on ebay, as for the fuel heater probe you will have to purchase that from a Stanadyne dealer. Here is the part number 29090.
It gets a very accurate reading, the probe is about 2 inches long so the tip is about even with the head. I have a homemade gauge that I use to see if the temp gauge in the cab is accurate, my gauge was on the front of motor on drivers side and it read between 170-195, and the gauge in the...
I used a "T" pipe and installed it in the back of the head on passenger side, along with the idiot light sensor. The back of the head is best because that is where it has the least amount of circulation so it gets hotter due to the water coolant passege design.
Mine has been a daily driver for over 5 years, installed the 700r4 so I could go faster, lower the rpm's, and have better fuel economy. Other than that it is stock. Been a great truck, wouldn't have any other!
Fuel filter base can crack causing a surge or no start, also the fuel heater probe seal could be bad or the fuel probe itself could have a crack in it. The STCE sensor on the fuel filter has an o-ring on it that could have failed, or the plastic fuel purge screw could have a crack. Mine had a...
How could it be installed "sideways", pump only goes on one way. These engines where retarded 5 degrees from factory for longevity, I advanced mine 5 degrees for a little power.
Air lockers are nice, only three drawbacks: 1-the air lines can freeze in cold temps making it inoperative, 2nd - if the line gets hung up on something like a branch, etc. and rips the line off then it will be inoperative. 3rd - if an internal seal starts to leak then it won't engage. Other...
It is a better option, because a tiny tach...............well it is tiny and its hard to see it. The dakota digital sensor allows the use of any tach, so someone can use a full size 6 inch tach or the stock in the dash chevy tach. So why is that not the better option? Plus if someone like me...
