    M109A3 RV Conversion

Really liked this insulation. It's foam with heat reflectant foil on both sides. The foam makes it rigid so just cut it the right size and push it into place and it stays. A few pics at Doran Beach on the north end of Bodega Bay. The roof makes a good tanning bed for the girls and a landing...

    M109A3 RV Conversion

After seeing all the 109 threads lately I thought I'd contribute like I said I would. If it wasn't for the other threads on these, I probably wouldn't have one. I'll try to get it all in the reserved threads so it's not all spread out. 10 Should do it. I got it Feb. of last year and started the...

Just boguht my first deuce, what can you tell me about it?

Axle leaks are pretty common on these. It's usually from plugged vents causing pressure to build up and push out the gear oil. I just did a brake and axle seal job on my A2. It's really not very difficult since deuces are pretty simple. Everything is just very heavy and messy. Don't drive it...

    LDS-465-1A Rebuild

That's my plan. I'll tune it as much as I can and get it running really nice. I'll add boost and pyro gauges while I'm at it so it won't wind up with burned up parts again. I'll probably run the heads with the cracks between the valves, but I'll pressure test them to make sure they won't leak...

    Updated with some more pics.

    Cool Down

I always idle down for 5 min. For warm up I don't do 5 minutes, usually roll out once the air pressure is full, but it takes me a few minutes to get down the driveway and through the gate so that gives it the rest of the time since it's low RPMs and idling.

    LDS-465-1A Rebuild

I got the head pulled the rest of the way apart today. The bottom of the head and the valves on the fried piston look fine. There's a little slag from the piston on the bottom and inside the exhaust valve but it should clean up just fine. The valves look very good, the seats are still shiny...

    LDS-465-1A Rebuild

3-19 update. Pressure tested the heads today and there was no leaking at those cracks. Also ground the valves. Some were really pitted so they will be replaced, but I ground them anyways.

    LDS-465-1A Rebuild

Pic#1 is the #5 piston that got really burned up. Pic#3 is the #3 cylinder mentioned before. It turned out the sleeve isn't cracked, that was just some dirt that got on there. 3/7 update. Got the valves clean and thermal cleaned/ shot abraded the heads. A few of the valves are outside of the...

    LDS-465-1A Rebuild

So I'm taking a engine reconditioning class in college and had to find a motor to rebuild. Of course the MV addict in me thought of a deuce engine. I looked in the classifieds and found an LDS simp5782 had listed and bought it. I've been wanting to re-power my M109A3 with an LDS so this will...

    My M109A3 RV Project Blog

Any evidence of rust on the steel sub floor? I found a patch that rusted through and had lots of rust flakes coming out so I decided to rip out the whole floor which turned out to be a good idea. The entire sub floor was rusted with piles of flaked off stuff all over the top. I filled about 3, 5...

Our First MV's Recovered - Now on to Maintenance & Updates

If oil is coming out the intake on the turbo don't run that engine until it's fixed! Could mean fried turbo seals which could cause a runaway engine. Always idle for 5 minutes before shutting down.

    Deuce Brake Line Question

I just did this job. For the brake lines I bought the 30" and one of the shorter ones and coupled them for the long line on the frame to the rear axles. Didn't do the front hard line since it didn't look rusty. The back was really rusty so it had to go. The front clamp behind the tanks was a...

Questions about the deuce fuel system

The last pic is the air pack for the brake assist. Don't go pouring fuel in those lines! If that's behind the battery box you've got a split brake truck. Lucky!

Newbie checking out a deuce today??

I like that exhaust setup. I've been thinking about doing something like that on my 109 to make long trips more comfortable.

    Hard to start

Crushed fuel line under the radiator? A fairly common occourance in GL trucks. My A2 is hard to start too and I figured that's the problem, but I've been too busy fixing other stuff to replace it.

My observations with 50wt in tranny

I put 50 weight in both my trucks and it made a huge difference on both. I also put in some Lucas so that may have helped some. Before it would be tough to get into gear sometimes, and 2nd was particulary hard. One time at a light I got stuck trying to get it into 1st and just couldn't do it so...
