We test winches for hire, and per Ron's post yes they are all rated for capacity on the first lay. The only exceptions are marine mooring winches and tuggers. They just have a maximum line pull rating. THe mechanics of the deuce winch are underrated, but the limiting factor is the rope...
All above is correct, but primary reason is to keep the load between the bearings, also mentioned above.
Look athe difference in the hub length on the front vs the rear. If you will check you will find that the centerline of the tire is right in the middle of the front hub and the centerline of...
What about the part of the Federal Reg. that specifically allows air over hydraulic brakes? Except for the slacks the issues are the same and even the Feds recognize this.
Also, the 2010 International that we just returned with (80K GCVWR, OTR Condo) does not have slack adjusters........it...
Yep, just like thefront of Squirt. BUT, there may have been such and animal. THE Jeep manual shows the level wind for the tiny jeep winch.......
Bjorn is correct at 10 degrees the rope will lay properly, but who ever gets a chance to be within 10 degrees when you really need the winch.
The deuce uses a single mass flywheel with a damped clutch disk. Dual mass flywheels are intended to make the power transmission smoother and ease shifting by allowing the use of a lighter clutch disk without damper springs and floating hub. The dual mass flywheel uses a spring damped second...
M-39 and 800 series all have sprag front axle engagement. The sprague is shifted forward to reverse by air. Reverse is selected by shifting into reverse, forward is selected when the shift rail moves off of reverse. Forward engegement is in netural and all forward gears regardless of the...
I really like the proposal of having POSTED times to leave for trail rides. We passed the word roughly an hour ahead and missed every departure time we set this rally.
DT has so many different tril styles now that we really need rides based on technical difficulty. Just not sure how to do that...
We sure had a good time at the rally, and sounds like just about everyone else did also.
It is just a good time to visit with the guys and gals that have the green fever.
Tigger, you are always welcome to ride, it was a pleasure. Guys sorry that the heater in the M-37 was not up to speed...
Squirt got in at 0100, Dumpster dropped a valve tappet and we had 300 miles of towbar time.
That 22000# dump truck will mess with yo driving when it gets pushin.
A winch can be deadly and at a minimum very dangerous. We test them, we break them, we use them. I have performed winch operations alone, like Ron says, some time we have to improvise. (Having a level wind makes it easier......)
We did a winch demo at the Georgia show one year with...
Moving the coupler forward will help the steering, but has no effect on the rear axle balance. The total rear weight will be a little less due to weight transfer but both rear axles will always see the same load due to the rear spring support design.
Even the manual says that it is acceptable to operate the 5-ton with front drive only, just at reduced speed and load. THe only real difference is that there is no engine braking. (Like there is much anyway...)
Which steering system does your truck have?
The old style Ross Hydrapower should have very little free play, the newer "800" style steering has tremendous free play if the hydraulics are not fully functional. In short the newer style system is DANGERIOUS without full hydraulic flow. (Ask...
