    HMMWV Wheel/Tire Decision

The rim design on the 8-bolt wheels does not have the safety lip needed to use radial tires correctly. While they will fit, it is an accident waiting to happen. If you have 8-bolt wheen your ONLY safe choise is bias-ply ties. The wheels are rated at about 2300 each - so about 9K max truck...

    Halfshaft length issue

You have a rear shaft in the front-right position. Remove and replace with the correct length shaft. As others have pointed out, there are three sizes - short and stubby for the front-left, medium length for the two rears and extra long front-right.

Need some help with a turtleback conversion

I have an extra C-Pillar bar too. This one came off a SF truck and the sheet metal that closes the gap to the slantback is cut off - probably easy enough to fabricate if you want it... Shipping won't be cheap, but the bar will be. :-)

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

JN, if you only followed my steps there should be no difference really in smoke as that rear adjustment is post-boost fueling only. You need to adjust the top screw for pre-boost fuel which is where it will make some smoke. I haven't changed mine yet. I do need to play with my idle some more...

    M35A3 3-point seat belt retrofit into M923A2

I did do a search, but couldn't find any specific post about retrofitting a set of 3-point belts from the M34A3 into my 923A2. I lucked onto some take-out belts on that auction site. Has anyone done a retrofit? Any pictures out there of your installs? looks like I'm going to have to fabricate...

    My 1992 M923a2 is home!

A couple comments about rolling the sides up. Much easier with one or two helpers. Also if you roll it up from the inside, you don't make a nice rainwater collector. Keeps the tarp a little cleaner as stuff can't build up in the gutter like channel. cheers, clarke

    Clutch fan system parts help?

Duke cola, the HMMWV isn't built with All GM parts - just the motor tranny were originally sourced from GM. The fan clutch has four different manufacturers listed when you look the NSN up. The last one is the AMG part number for the HMMWV. Manufacturer Information: 1090-06404-01 51377...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

Spook - yes dead on. I used Young Gun's PDF and the pictures of his modification tool, along with the posts from neverenuf. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?74925-So-who-has-bumped-the-power-on-a-6CTA-cummins&p=1438636&viewfull=1#post1438636 Here is the link to the tool pics that...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

I'll take one when I do my friends truck - probably this weekend. I should have an extra set of hands available...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

I just did the this modification to my 1989 M293A2. I went to participate in two Memorial Day parades this past weekend. The truck wouldn't maintain speed on modest hills - so I figured why not? I only made two changes - the governor spring and the full-fuel adjustment on the back of the pump...

    802A Parallel operation ???

802A's and 803A's are not designed for parallel operation - there is no control or controls built in to sync externally. Some people have used the 002's and 003's in parallel mode by carefully timing the two units - but they aren't designed for it either. You can search youtube or here for a...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

Four turns, five turns - which adjustments are you making? The rear 10mm/14mm nut under the cover? The top screw? I'm assuming it isn't the governor springs since you mention turns not clicks. thanks in advance for more specifics.

    Leaking Wheels with CTIS

tokarev, Yup. Admittedly my truck is a 2010 rebuild so it only has 3 or 4 years of being together, but that's what we did. Two prybars and a pickle fork and just went around the outer rim half (the shallow half) and pry, pry, squirt, pry, squirt, pry and after going around twice the outer wheel...

    Leaking Wheels with CTIS

Thanks PoM, I've edited the article to reflect torque specs from the manual with specific cites from the TM's. The budd nut torque is listed (at least in the first place I found it in the TM's) at 400-425 lb-ft,

    Leaking Wheels with CTIS

Just did one of the two wheels I have off my M923A2 that is leaking in the exact same way yesterday. As others have said - you need to break the wheel down, separate the halves and replace the o-ring that seals the two halves up. It's a two-man job and about two or three hours - at least for my...

    2014 VIN Info Thread

Thank you CARNAC. Donation made in the amount of $25 - although the form had no provision for comments, so I could not mention the Steel Soldiers project. :-(

    Successful M923A2 recovery: New Castle

Thanks John - I was certainly crossing my fingers. I did have a couple tow companies on my list if it turned out we needed them. Thankfully we didn't. I'll bring the truck into town and have the heavy truck shop look it over and give it hopefully a clean a bill of health for safety reasons. Not...
