    Hints on freeze plug replacement?

If you want to put in a freeze plug type block heater, now might be a good time to do it.

    Fuel Pump Push Rod

The lift pump [primary fuel pump]push rod is driven off lobe on camshaft. Timing chains can break, though not a common problem, easy enough to check. Make sure push rod moves freely & not binding. The rod will only move if something [like the fuel pump spring] is pushing against it. It...

HOW CAN GL sa I have 10 days only open 3 days in the 10.

Since you have a key and can unlock steering, a simple trailer recovery method: Bring enough (at least a 20 feet more than the length of trailer) strong tow rope or chain (I use 3/8 chain). unhook tow vehicle , block trailer tires, pull truck on to trailer. This is easyer with a helper , but...

convert a srw to a dually

heck, I put together this truck to work, no need to pay for duel wheel rim adapters in front. This truck has been great. Paid for itself in my business many times.

    problems with interstate batteries

If you want well made batteries that will take a lot shaking and vibration, Caterpillar equipment makes good ones. I think they sell 31s and 24s, as well as larger machine sized batteries. I got 9 years out of the original battery in my 226 loader.

    Doghead starter relay question

I usually use the diode out of the old relay when I do the modification.

convert a srw to a dually

This is my first CUCV, a 1008 I bought as a cab & chassis from a refuse district. I took the 14 bolt duel rear from a 1979 C-30. Differential 4.56 with locker is from cucv axel. Worked this truck for 10 years. I know some folks would convert the front axel to duelly type rims, but I kind of...

    Hi from Massachusetts

Welcome to site from another Mass resident. The cucvs are good, basic, non computer trucks. A reasonable project/daily driver. They have some electronic issues that you would not have to deal with in a similar civilian truck, but they can be bought in much better shape than most other trucks...

    1031 manual governor ?

There seems to be a lot of problems involved with the electronic governor system. Those of you who have fully functioning 1031 generators, are they fine once sorted out? Or is the gov control system always a weak point? I have looked into installing a belt driven flyball governor (Pierce Long...

    Transmission upgrade

Having owned a few civy 6.2 s with manual trannys, I would advise you to stick with the TH400. the torque curve on the 6.2 favors the automatic, unless you are going to put in a 5 or 6 speed. The standard Chevy 4 spd w granny gear works ok w a gas 350, not so much with the 6.2. It is likely...

    Gen 1 Light and Fan

As I noted in the other thread, If you remove the blower fuse (it is the highest fuse on fuse pannel), the alt 1 light and alt are disabled. This seems to show the circuits are connected.

    Batteries Dying in my CUCV

'can you show us that?' Can't show you on that schematic, but I know the alt 1 is involved in blower circuit. On my 1st 1008, replaced the#1 alt a couple of times before I figured the heater blower was involved. Was also blowing heater fuses. Replaced blower resistor(which looked ok, but...

    Batteries Dying in my CUCV

The #1 alt circuit is routed through heater motor speed selector resistor as well. Heater motor fuse must be good, The resistor ( the four pronged plug on firewall next to the blower motor) must be good and not grounding to body. If your alternator tests good, but your heater motor does not...

New fellow with M1031, some questions

Did your truck come from Limestone? I got mine from that lot, and one of them probably had not been cranked in a couple of years, serious sitting disease. Switches were sticky, the alts did not charge right away. Went over truck systematically, got it running and it seemed to fix itself. It...

    Horn

Horn button on steering wheel activates relay by grounding out. If the horn button parts are messed up, you can ground simple push button to wheel and connect to wire, for quick fix for inspection. Horn button parts are still available or strip from any similar chevy. Horn relay should make...

    Got my 1031s

To answer WARWAG, they came from the tip of Maine to Cape Cod Mass, 600 some miles. Trucking cost $2,300, same charge for 1 or 2 trucks, (that's how I talked myself int buying 2). The EUCs on these took that long, but a blazer I bought last month cleared in 2 weeks, and these still did not...

    Got my 1031s

Got my 1031s last week. Bought mid august, took this long for EUC, One is complete except missing Gov Circuit On switch on dash. would like to buy one. Or at least see picture of one from back. Looked a schematic from door, know that it is S 1 and has 3 wires. The other truck was used...

CUCV wont start, got clicking sound then fuses blow-PLEASE HELP

The capacitor is probably for radio noise suppression. would not worry about it. One thing to double check, since you changed the starter, is the cable at starter end, there is a heat shield down there that gave me problems once, looked fine from what I could see, but had cut the insulation in...
