    cucv won't start

I guess the first thing would be to ask you for details please. Is this a pickup, Blazer or ambulance? Does it still have two alternators or just one? Where did you get the truck from? Straight from the military, a fire department, a city auction, private owner, etc? If you can measure voltage...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

Yea, the lift pump on the side of the block is REAL fun... doubly so when there's a Banks kit on it like my Burby... Definitely sounds like it's starving for fuel. Later, Joe

    m1009 no start

Nope, no relays on the column itself. I would print out the TM wiring diagrams and take them with you. Later, Joe

84 M1009 overcharging rear battery and will not idle

Bleed the filter again and see what happens. Sounds like it's starving for fuel. To rule out a mechanical problem, get a piece of hose long enough to reach the ground from the fuel pump and stick it in a can of clean diesel. Change out the filter again and bleed it again. If it will run off...

    HELP! Stranded and won't start.

Do you have lights when the battery charger is hooked up? Can you locate the source of the buzzing under the dash? If it's the starter relay, the quick bypass is to remove the plug from it and jump the purple wire to the red wire in the plug, that will make the starter turn. If everything else...

what's this thing on my fusebox?

The one that hangs above the fuse box is the glow plug controller. I'll have to go over the diagrams to see what the other one is... what color wires does it have? Later, Joe

    It lives!!!

Well, it's been 7 more months but I finally got all the bugs out of my 1009 and took it on its first real voyage of about 22 miles. Steering is nice and tight, brakes work (but could use another bleeding) and the engine runs smooth. Pulls nice and hard through all the gears, although the...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

Did you try jumping 12V directly to the pump? You should have 12V at the pink wire. Also, the shut off solenoid might be stuck. You can take the solenoid off the top of the pump and check it out, it's just four bolts. Just watch how it comes apart and put it back together the same way. Also...

    m1009 no start

Sounds like one of two things: starter switch or fusible link to the 12V side. If you have a multimeter or test light, check for voltage at the 12V buss which is the diamond shaped terminal block above the master cylinder. If there is no juice there, the fusible link from the batteries is...

    Gen light / Charging problems.

There is one other possibly easy fix for the problem... the Bosch relay under the dash might have gone bad. It controls the Gen 2 system and if it's bad, nothing works. Under the dash directly beneath the factory stereo opening is a bracket holding three relays, the big silver relay is the...

84 M1009 overcharging rear battery and will not idle

I would bet that you have algae growing in your tank and that's what plugged up your filter. 15 minutes driving with the movement of the vehicle stirred up the tank enough to reach the pickup. On the batteries, it sounds like the voltage regulator in the Gen2 alternator is dead. I would take it...

    belts for my m1009

Sorry for the late reply. I have had good luck with the Gatorback belts... they don't seem to squeal quite as much as the other brands. The part numbers for the belts are in the FAQ stickied to the top of the thread list for the CUCV forum... but here they are again. I don't have the numbers for...

    Storage Prep

Clear full is much better than clear empty. A full tank doesn't leave room for the moisture in the air to condense on the walls of the tank and lead to corrosion... that said, three months won't cause the problems a year or years will, especially in dry Arizona. For a three month outdoor...

    belts for my m1009

I personally prefer the Goodyear Gatorback belts... O'Reily's sells them here. I'd drop the extra $20 for the Gates personally... I hate changing belts and if you skimp there, you'll be changing them sooner. Later, Joe

    Storage Prep

The short list is change the oil and disconnect the batteries. The oil change is optional, but it will be much better to have clean oil in it than old oil. The rest of the list depends on whether it's stored indoors or out. Later, Joe

OK to drive a m1009 with the gen 2 light on?

Electrically she'll be fine... just make sure she checks to make sure the pieces of belt aren't wrapped up around something and flailing around. As others have said, Gen1 is the one that powers the lights and injection pump so it'll run as long as that Alt is working. Later, Joe

    Gen light / Charging problems.

From all of the information I have gathered yes, if the bulb is bad the alternator won't charge. Part number for the bulb is 194... same as the side marker lights. You could try swapping the two alternators to see if it works in the Gen2 position to eliminate the alternator itself as the...
