Do you think the drums may be rusty and it's just grabbing? If you can look at/or get a picture of the same model trailer and see if anything is different, it would help.

Yeah, you have to be prepared to walk away if it's damaged more than you want to accept. That might be hard to do if you traveled a long distance. It's easier to decide if you pick up the item yourself but sometimes that is impractical. I doubt there will be any trucker that will walk away...

I think the new regulator will probably work. It is just designed to fit more than one application ie. the extra terminal. If the numbers on the terminals match the numbers/locations on the old regulator I would use it. You can take it to a parts store with an alternator tester after you...

An M872 or similar is not a bad idea. Us Rays do whatever it takes and figure things out as we go. Ray says he want's to build the Taj-2, but is at the limit of what his Deuce tractor can comfortably pull.... Not a problem now!

Go to a spring shop. They can re-arc your current springs or build you a new set. I've had both done. If you are going to haul heavy, get new springs.
