Now that it has cooled of enough that I could leave her in the truck without coming out to a crowd with pitch forks I took Diggy Dog to town in the Detroit, perhaps her last ride in the Detroit.
Like the man said, "dogs love trucks"!!
Many upgrades done to Basic and A1 trucks did not include the 14V wire because without the 4 speed they saw no need to balance the batteries, if you are going to pull any power from the 12V connection between the batteries you need to install this wire.
I have seen the 14V tap on the regulator...
Remember you MUST find a way to push the fuel pump push rod back up and hold it there when installing the new pump or it will immediately fail.
I find it easier to pull the steel plate behind the pump and grease up the shaft and put it back in place, some others have other ways of doing it.
I...
It would be best just to get a real one, not many mufflers have the outlet at 90deg and that is not the only thing that makes it fit, plenty of used ones out there.
I suppose you could jury rig something like the last owner did, then the next guy can feel the same way you feel about him.
Great, that gives you a few days to go through the troubleshooting guide.
Another thing you can check is unplug the main harness from the transmission and see if there is any oil in the connector.
Disconnect the batteries before plugging or unplugging anything, safest to pull both the front...
It may have been trying to warn you for some time.
Have you inspected the TCM for signs of water intrusion?
You just need to get where you can read the codes, if it works cold it is less likely it is a power issue and more likely it is ether a bad sensor/wiring or a bad TCM.
EDIT, or possibly a...
The supplement I posted above has the wire numbers, look on page 140 it is called a MIL for "malfunction indicator light"
It is an LED so it likely is polarity specific, plug the "A" wire into the "A" connector on the harness.
According to the manual attached page 141 the wire should be marked 290 and or 291 and or 537.
I am curious what you mean by you do not have a transmission light, the one thing everyone with the 4L80 really needs is a working transmission light, it can help tell you if you have a power issue...
Dying in reverse would be a red flag to me.
If it were me while I waited for the trans. light I would disconnect the 12V power to the TCM, it is one of the two wires connected to the positive post of the rear battery (connection between the batteries) the other goes to the regulator.
Then I...
Did you inspect the mounting surface for the turbo and the turbo itself very carefully?
Any damage, dings etc. could cause your issue, even thought there is no valid reason to run synthetic oil in a Detroit I don't think that would be your issue here.
It is a very simple setup as far as the...
The first thing I would do is remove the magnetic drain plug and spread the stuff stuck to the magnet on a clean white piece of cloth, let the oil soak in and see what is left. that will tell you if your suspicion is correct, if it is then disassembly will be needed to determine the failure...
