I s'pose I gotta either put up or shut up! I'll drive it to work this week and see how it goes. We may just need that towbar if I try it all the way to Iola. This could get interesting!
Moms minivan? Dude, it's MY minivan I'll have you know! (My wife gave it to me after she got her new jeep ) Seriously, I don't think the truck would make the 250 mile round trip and I'd rather spend the cash on truck parts and goodies instead of truck fuel. If I buy anything too big for...
Let's see.... $200 for fuel and I get 2 free passes or $30 bucks for gas in the minivan and I buy tickets. I'm thinking the 5 ton stays parked. If you don't make it, I can always haul it home for you on the trailer with no brakes! (Hey, we made last weekend!)
RE: More pictures. 1968
Thanks for posting the pictures. My brother was in the same area in '65. 11th Marine Division, if I remember right. He never talked about it much.
When you pulled out the T handle on the bottom of the grease cylinder, there should have been pretty good spring pressure. If not, the grease won't be forced into the pump. If the spring's missing or broken, get one from one of ACE's 30 year old lever type guns. I didn't think much of the...
Be carefull running it that way. The noise was the intake fan destroying itself inside the housing. The smoke is motor oil being dumped into the exhaust. If the seal on the intake side goes, you start burning motor oil and end up with a unstoppable runaway. The white smoke is kinda impressive...
Wow, two turbos? Anybody I know? Ya think he woulda learned the first time. Seriously, with the noise described, I doubt it's the turbo, but it's easy to check. Black smoke is unburned fuel. Pull the valve covers, you'll know soon enough if you dropped a valve.
Not a bad idea, but truck pto's will self destruct at the first sign of impact. We had a pto driven air compressor on a sevice truck. Mechanic was in a hurry on a service call and pulled the pto lever and dumped the clutch. The pto split off the mounting flange, literally fell on the ground. Had...
Hey, do I get points for being close? I always wondered why I never saw a Bighorn other than in magazine adds. Now I know... The amount of info on this site never ceases to amaze me!
Will, you sure it was the Bison? The Bison was Chevy's version of the GM General. Seems to me that it was something like Big Horn. Also seem to remember it being Dodges last attempt at a heavy truck. But then you're talkin' 35 years ago and the memory aint what it used to be! The old...
RE: prices
I could be wrong, but don't all military dump beds go almost vertical? Oh well, they're all extremely rare and one of a kind when it's time to sell.
RE: trailers
They have the short pin setting 'cause they're usually pulled by single axle tractors. Handy trailer for any type of construction. Hope you can sell 'em, they look too good to scrap!
