In theory, anything's possible. If you want a multifuel M211 it'd be way easier to put the cab and front clip from an M211 on a n M35 frame and drivetrain. And yes, there will be massive amounts of cutting and welding! I've thought of doing something similar myself, but when you have the trucks...
Yup, they're all plastic with no drain. I took the box off to blast the frame and rear axle so it was easy to clean the tank and get it ready to reinstall.
Good job, especially when you started with a parts truck! Looks like 24087 semi-gloss. That's what I painted my M54. Rick Larson stencils really finish it off.
I saw a picture of one just like you're talking about awhile back, but I can't remember where or any details other than it was a utility body on a bobbed deuce. Looked good as I remember.
Great looking truck[thumbzup]! I've got mine down to the cab and frame and am starting to weld in new rockers and floor pans. Hope mine looks half as good as yours if and when it gets done.
The CCKW had a 270 engine w/5 speed manual trans and was built during WWII. M135/211 series trucks were built '52 to '55 or '56 and had the 302 w/GM hydramatic trans.
One more thing, an adiabatic engine isn't air cooled. That's the point, the engine uses all the heat generated by combustion and doesn't need cooling of any kind. Internal parts are designed to withstand high temps (2000 degrees plus). Definately not a corvair or deutz!
Thanks, I forgot about Saturn. Haven't been here for a while, but a new computer makes alot of difference.
I've cleaned the filter several times, but I'm thinking it's time to get a new one.
Rich, maybe we'll get a chance to see you sometime this summer?
Anyone know where I can get an air cleaner element for an M54A2? Tried the search for a part number cross and came up empty. Tried the local truck parts supplier (where I used to work) and still nothing. Picked one up on epay a while ago and it wasn't even close. Any help would be appreciated.
5 ton frame to axle height
Mine's at 11" top of housing to bottom of rail. There's about 1500# sitting in the bed but it shouldn't make much difference.
RE: Another deuce brake problem
Been there, done that, and the truck without air don't stop worth a da**. Try it if you don't believe me! As I said, no brake lights at that point are the least of your problems.
Tom at Alfaheaven is ok in my opinion, but others here seem to think a 20 year old truck should come with a full warranty. The shipping on tires from Wis. to New Jersey would be a bit steep. Hopefully you can find something a bit closer.
RE: Another deuce brake problem
If you lose air, your brakes won't work, so what's the difference at that point if your brake lights are are inoperative? It's an upgrade 'cause it's working under low pressure and less prone to failure.
