Relay valve repair is TM 24-3 page 4-591
No luck going through the TM's for the abs system. You'll need to trace the electrical connectors.
I would just disconnect the solenoid at the valve for each rear axle.
If none of these work you'll need to pull the relay vents apart and clean them. You mentioned that you live in a dusty environment. They have a tendancy to get dirty and not work. Also, you might want to change your engine air filter as well.
Keep us posted !
OK, disconnect the electical abs connector on the top of the relay vent and try again. Maybe the abs is closing off the vent for some reason ?
Or find the abs control box and completely remove power from it. Does your abs give a good check out on startup ? The light will come on for a 3...
Stock hole size I believe 2 1/16 or something like that ?
Patch the holes in the lower panel section then redrill new ones.
I spot welded around the patches and used JB weld as filler. I then painted using a fine bed liner spray for texture and then painted over with OD.
I have a friend with an M54, 5 ton multifuel with power steering and 1600x20 tires already installed, its awesome ! We are not that far away from you. Here's a pic. Its the OD truck, mine is the desert colored deuce behind.
The M54 is for sale. He wants an M925A2 to play with.
Looks like the fuel mileage is going to kill off the 5 ton idea. Once I get into a 2.5 ton and make all the necessary repairs, then the modifications shall begin.
Will I be correct to assume the multi-fuel engine runs on WMO fairly easily? I have about 400 gallons stored and am collecting more...
Those relay vents look to have the abs input as well. They work on the spring side of the air brakes. Each rear axle has its own unit. Its possible that they are not releasing air and are stuck. Try the air tool oil suggestion. Also once you have full air pressure try applying brakes, firm...
I believe, as mentioned earlier, that there might be two vents. One for the truck the other for a trailer hook up. I'm not sure. Let me dig into the TM's and look. The 9 series TM's are awful for trouble shooting the brake system. After my air brake issue I feel for ya !
I'll post up...
Right on the money here.
I own both, an M35a2 and a M932A1. The 9 series trucks are easier to drive. Parts are harder to find and slightly more expensive. They are quieter and the cab will take 3 comfortably.
I added air o matic steering to my deuce and now it drives almost as easy as...
You might have two issues. The release valve and the brake pedal. If your truck has sat for a while and you don't empty the air tanks of moisture you might have some rust on the valves causing them to be sticky. I opened up my emergency glad hand on the very back and squirt some air tool oil in...
It sounds like since its only the 4 rear wheel assemblies something is going on with your spring brakes. Perhaps some air issues ?
I would try caging all 4 rear spring brakes and do a slow test drive in an area that if the brakes stop working you'll have no issues. If the brakes still get hot...
I wouldn't recommend an LDT in a 5 Ton. The LDT manages to move an M35 OK but a 5 ton weights more and your not going to be happy. That's why they used the LDS motor in the 5 tons. As far as swapping, I couldn't say how much work it would be. Substantial would be my guess since they are...
I don't know what's involved with removing the CTIS system but I love my 395's on HEMTT's !
I cruise down the road about 56mph very nicely in the M35a2.
Learn the basics reading the TM's and the forum. These things will cost a lot if you let someone else do all the work !
Just normal operation is not cheap. Anything you can do to offset the cost is a good thing.
