Well funny thing. My wife came home and I was talking to her about this thread, and my ins. quote, and mentioned Progressive. She asked why wasn't I going to put it on with our Durango...I said I was. Well what I didn't know (wifey usually handles these things) is that our AUTO policy is through...
And how are the many others on here with Progressive getting insurance? I read through a couple other insurance threads which show many Deuce owners with Progressive.
Progressive is a crappy company anyway, and has a history of ducking out of claims. I had an experience myself with a motorcycle...
They'll get all the details when I actually go down there to get the policy. I just called today to get a quote so I can get an idea how much it would cost. Once they have all the proper info, if they write me a policy they shouldn't, then its their fault. But up here everyone and their brother...
I wonder if it varies by state. She knows its a big old farm truck, and I wasn't offering anything extra...just answering her questions. Here in N.H., the state doesn't consider anything under 26k as commercial unless you specifically request it (in other words, it doesn't matter if its a 5k lb...
Well my phone call to my Progressive local agent was much easier than I would have thought. Here is the total conversation:
Her: Hello?
Me: Hi, I need a quote for adding a vehicle. (gave my name)
Her: O.K., and what kind of vehicle are you adding?
Me: Well this is going to be a little...
I need to call my company (Progressive) to try to get insurance. My problem is, I don't have the info on my truck! The less than helpful GL description doesn't even list the mfg. of mine, and as usual no year. I know I'll get all that (hopefully) when the EUC is approved and I get my final...
For those who don't already have experience with them, STAY AWAY from the DIY roll-on liners. I used Herculiner on several projects, and did excellent prep every time, and every one of them peeled after a while. I'd like to find something that actually works and doesn't cost $400+ for a truck...
Those are the ones! That tread pattern looks like it would be a decent all-around tire. Not good for real off road, but should give some decent traction in snow, and be quiet and smooth on the highway. I can't wait to do the recovery to find out!
Jim
Yea, what he said. Sorry for the late reply, I was away and couldn't get near the 'puter. Truck has 260k on it, I drove it personally for over 2 years and the engine ran MINT. I just parked it because the trans is bad. Now the lift pump is bad from sitting. I could put a new one on though. I'm...
I just got back from my father's, and he happened to have a pair of the same tread tires that came on one of his Deuces, and they aren't the 177s. Now I forgot the number, of course, but you can see the tread pattern here:
My Tires
And yes, his were 1100s, so that should make my trip back a...
Thanks guys, I already did a 500 mile recovery without ear protection, this time I WILL have it. I also need some tunes, which is why I bought a 24v/12v converter. I'm thinking over-ear headphones (decent ones) for my buddy and I, and hook up the MP3 players. They should block out the truck's...
For those who have experience with them, can anyone tell me the size and brand the military usually uses when they put highway radials on a Deuce? I'm not talking about the all-terrain Michelins, but the road tread tires like used on over the road trucks. Several in the last GL batch in Kentucky...
Thanks. I'm planning to hit Harbor Freight in Louisville and pick up a cheap bottle jack- buying one will be cheaper than shipping one. For lug nuts, I'm figuring a breaker bar and long pipe. I did just check on a geared lug wrench, and I could order one ahead of time.
For the parts, I'm going...
I'd say it depends on how you plan to use the truck. It will be as gutless as a Deuce, so plan on that. But if thats O.K. with you, then go for it. The engine should fit, no problem. Just need to make up your own mounts. If you aren't climbing big mountains all the time it should do just fine...
Guess I should have done some simple math. I used Streets & Trips, and set my Speed on Highways to SLOW and it showed me leaving at 6am and getting home around midnight. Apparently their version of slow doesn't mean Deuce-speed! :driver:
I did almost the same trip on my KLR650, and even with a...
I have read several threads about doing a Deuce recovery, and got lots of great tips, part numbers of required items, etc. But those were "best case" scenarios, where you could bring everything you wanted, including a kitchen sink. I'm going to be doing a long-distance recovery in Kentucky...
With me it has to do with how prepared I am to buy at that time. In Aug. when I had money ready, researched every detail I could (from the pics) about every truck in that location (I have a nice Excel spreadsheet I use- list top style, winch or no, heater?, tires, etc.), and left work early so I...
I like the clutch pump. While the AGRs are decent at what they were made for- running power steering and hydraulic steering rams, they weren't made for the kind of high volume needed for heavy use. And if you are going to try to pull a Deuce with a Milemarker (yes, they will do it...but work at...
Thats the kind of shifting that would be fun for a little while, then get OLD very quick! I have an aux. 3-speed (OD, direct, and UD) that I've wanted to put into something. Last thought was in my converted bread truck/camper/Jeep hauler behind my 5.9 Cummins. I wouldn't use it to split gears...
