Won't Start
Make sure the distributer is set for top dead center on the compression stroke (both valves closed) Next make sure the spark continues the whole time the engine is cranking (loose wire) Check the firing order of the plug wires. Make sure when distributer is at top dead center...
Marking locations
Would it be possible, or has someone already done this, to get a sketch drawing of the deuce with an arrow pointing to all the possible marking locations on the deuce? I am going to have to admit to thinking a bumper (bumperete?) was the small rounded pieces of metal that hit...
I didn't want to hear that
Well on the bright side I had not gotten around to sealing the zippers. Was in a hurry to get things back together for the Memorial Day Parade. Any harm in letting it drip a bit? I would like to enjoy a bit if driving before the next repair.
how full is full?
After changing the boots I noticed some gear oil dripping ever so slightly from the bottom. The differential is full to the plug level. In typing this I remember I for got to check the vent. Is filling to the plug the proper level, or should it be a bit lower?
Thanks.
Canvas Question
Thanks for the info on the part numbers. When I got my truck there were two pieces of canvas in the front and none in the rear. I recently took all the canvas off. When I went to put it back on I noticed the two different part numbers. That's when I asked the question...
Is there a difference in size between the front and rear canvas? I have 2 pieces one with a part number MS51324-18 and the other MS51324-20. Which is the front and are they both for a Deuce? Thanks
grease
Thanks for the graphic. Can you put grease in from the top or bottom? I tried putting it in the lower grease fitting but it didn't go in very fast. Can I put it in, as in the picture, until it appears at the plugs? Thanks
Where does the greese go?
A while back I read something in the forum about putting a lot of grease in the knuckle boots once they were replaced. My question is where and how much I jacked the axle up and started putting in some there but it wouldn't go in very fast Could someone give me a...
missing parts
I am no expert but it appears to be missing part of the lifting brackets on the front bumper. The mushroom like pre-cleaner in the passenger's side cover isn't there. The winch cable is missing the chain and hook end. Its missing a headlight and part of the heater (hot air)...
Stupid tire question
Thanks for the info. I had two tires changed and asked the tire guy about the studs and nuts. He said to make sure everything screwed together without any binding and to use never-seize on the outside nut only. I asked and he said it was alright to put it on the...
Wheel Leak
Add this to everyone else's good advice, check to see if the leak looks as it is coming out the brake drum(rear). From the first picture it looks as if the axle seal (outer end) might be leaking or leaking from the axle being loose (something rare but easily checked) I didn't see a...
Question. Why can't I get my tires off easily? I cleaned the studs and nuts when assembling. I just got done taking an outer dual off, which was off only about 4 months ago, and it was another jumping on the 4 foot breaker 3/4 inch breaker bar session. I now have one less Snap on...
Filter
This must be something that is installed with a fording kit? Mine doesn't have a filter/sump. I did put an extension on the draft tube to avoid getting oil on the starter. Thanks for the picture/info.
Spooge
I am sure what he is talking about is a oil-moisture mixture that drips from the tube. Its a normally occurring thing. Sometimes called blow-by. It occurrs more when the engine is cold.
One on the left
If its metal I would guess at some sort of thrust main shim or bearing face? Rubber, I would guess its a seal or slinger for oil probably on the rear main bearing?
I am replacing a front axle boot that I replaced not to long ago. I noticed that the hole occurred at the location of the inner and outer clamp (both positioned at the bottom of the axle. I am wondering, should they be staggered to prevent holes? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Thanks for the information guys. Huuummm, something to think about. I'll sand the inside of the door next. Any other areas where the unit number might be? I repainted the hood and bumper tonight What you said explains why no hood number. Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks...
Hood number
This is the only number I have been able to find. The truck is sand color with green underneath I haven't seen any camo on it so far. Its a 1970 AMG. By the way what is this number? Judging from the wear on the hood hinges it is the original hood
Question / Numbers
Good evening, I tried sanding the bumper tonight. There was a raised section (paint of some type) and I did see a couple of numbers (3771) but I think they were painted on a lot later than the raised section of paint. As I sanded through the raised section of paint I saw a...
