    HMMWV Lug Nuts

One of the first things I did when I got my truck home was to squirt Kroil on the threads and remove every lug nut one at a time. Hosed down with a little WD40, took a stainless brush to a few, put a little dab of anti-seize on the threads and reassembled to torque. Took a couple hours, but...

    Distracted Driving

When stationed in Germany years ago (Augsburg), I took the German driver's license test (the one with the awareness tests - how many cars are near you? Behind? Time, distance questions, coordination and reflexes with the little blunt-tipped screwdrivers, etc) and in the lectures there was much...

Question about Dual oil filter kit 57K4411 4330-01-533-5641

Sounds like a good idea. Poked around on the web for a few minutes. How and where does one find a five micron filter to match? Tried at summit racing. Tried AMSOIL (they don't even show Hummers older than 2002) and their EA line of filters only go down to 20 micron. I COULD do this all day...

Question about Dual oil filter kit 57K4411 4330-01-533-5641

One of the easier one-hour installations I've done. While I had the transfer case/shafts out, I dropped the old filter block and installed the new dual filter kit. EXCEPT for the center bolt being ridiculously tight (I used an air impact tool on low setting to remove it after trying a short...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Reinstalled muffler, more or less. got seals off, scraped and took a wire brush then coarse steel wool to remove old seals, got hanger up, u-bolt on, and rear mount bolts in place. Nuts/bolts are just on, loose, I ran out of patience. TIP: I used the wooden end of the same wire brush to hold...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Access panel cutout. Figure I'll drill a couple holes in the "hump" (the tabs are in the LOW part), run a zip-tie though fore and aft, then just run a bead of silicone in the gap for weather/exhaust fume proofing. Layer of insulation and the plywood board goes over it anyway. Also got the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Got the 271 TC installed today. Lift didn't reach. I wound up lowering it, pulling it up into my lap and lifting it into place. Not easy, but without a tank, driveshaft or muffler there's a LOT of room to maneuver. Glad I ate my Wheaties this morning. Filled it up with fresh ATF which...

    Tire pressure, mpg, ride quality

What is this "mpg" of which you speak? Anyone know what TM or TB this is in?

Suh-WEET! Of course, you start upgrading your ride like that, you gotta bring the whole thing up to that level of appearance. NB

Hello from across the pond, buying a HMMWV (hopefully)

Welcome. DO check the for sale boards here, on g503.com and I think there're some other places. Some really good deals can be had from time to time. Enjoy.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Puttered around with fuel tank, cleaned up fittings, painted brackets with rustoleum rust converter stuff, armor plate by tank too, knocked out the retaining plate from the tank to find no o-rings. Must've been put in on later models, or someone forgot this step at the factory. Parts from HPG...

Source for under hood jack storage

Dropped fuel tank today, not a lot of stuff in the bottom, some paint chips (?), a little water (probably from me cleaning the outside), some grit/dirt, cleaned up nice. Old time sender with ping-pong ball on arm inside (have new on hand), sock is so clogged I can't see light through it (new on...

Source for under hood jack storage

You know the tabs riveted to the commander's seat/battery box? Same thing. That jack mounting plate that bolts up to the lift tower and right side spash shield SHOULD have two of those tabs on top to pair up with the "hooks". I'd take a picture of mine, but truck's in the garage and it's a...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

removed, installed rear transfer case seal. I bought a box of tools months ago and had the installation tool called for in the instructions. It didn't work. Unless I"m reading the manual wrong on this and it's for a 218 not a 242 TC (doubtful, the box o'tools were for later model HMMWVs...

1993 3L80 Transmission Filter Change (bolt loose to filter) Correct or not?

FYI: Check parts book 24P-1 (or 2), search for short part number or NSN. NSN-Now.com search here; http://nsn-now.com/Indexing/PublicSearch.aspx Looks like they're available, just not "the usual places." GM part shown too. Glad you got it worked out.

Wait light not visible in bright light

Could be, and I'd have to check out TM -10 manual for this, if it's warm enough outside, or short enough time after stopping, wait light might not come on at all. Last time I ran my truck it was in the70s, I turned it off, puttered around for about a half hour, turned the key, no wait light...
