4th of July HMMWV Plans Anyone?

Worked LAST night. Was lucky to get out of the parking lot. We're just a couple hundred yards from where the city puts on a fireworks display. LAST year I was blocked in until the idiot came over and moved their car. This year it was just crowded. People park a 1/2 mile away and walk to the...

Greetings from Florida new member with M1030M1

Welcome aboard. Steel Soldiers is the place to share our hobby, so PLEASE share with us how/where/how much. Inquiring minds want to know. And I'm sure there's more than a handful of us with "the wantsies" looking at that bike. Very cool. Norm

    Cooling upgrade system.

I was just about to ask "where's that dratted popcorn emoticon when we really need it?" Thanks, and "ditto that."

    Hello from Memphis.

Thanks for this. I read more horror stories here about people who have bought one (or two) trucks at auction only to have one nightmare after the other with electric, transfer case, transmission, hub(s), cooling system issues and more. I stalked this board (g503 and other places) for about a...

    Hello from Memphis.

Welcome from socialist occupied Maryland. Soon to be a permanent resident of "The Volunteer State", working towards retiring on a farm just west of Columbia, TN. Enjoy your stay here. Norm

Have tried just bout everything else.........M998 and off to the deep end!

Thing on the post is an electronic ID "pinger". I don't recall the exact name for it, but it's got a unique identifier number/chip that can be used for inventory control. Check the bottom of it for #s. Oh, and congratulations. Looks like a nice "win." Welcome to the madness.

    how to soundproof the humvee

Soundproofing a HMMWV? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the point of the OP's post, but it seems to me the truck runs so LOUDLY it pretty much drowns OUT any other noises. Pretty soundproof to MY ears. But they already ring - in three octaves - from working in Aviation environments and range exercises.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Since I did something structural/functional last week (airlift bumper, spare tire carrier), I thought I'd cut up the metal mesh I'd bought for the brush guard. Not that I expect to come across many RPGs in this lifetime - some cecropia moths, maybe - but I like the look. Now to weld 'em in...

    My first Humvee build

Welcome to the madness. There's a LOT of transportation companies willing to compete for your money as well as several guys here with trailers if you ask around. I think there's even a forum for transportation needs. Lok for a company called uship; there's others, too. Good luck.

Demand for power in the field

I can recall one mission with the AVN BDE where the heavy lift guys (Chinooks) brought in generators, washers, dryers, microwave ovens, a 4 foot TV and cots and refrigerators and more. Most comfortable field problem ever. Until "the general" (a 2-star, Division chief) came by and, channeling...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Go to real4wd (kascar) and look for "grommet". Somewhere down the five page list you'll see a variety of grommets that get held in place with the split metal retainer (part #AM General 12338092 Heater Harness Retainer 809223 NSN 2590-00-454-3620), just take your pic of the grommet (single...

Can someone help clarify something for me regarding model variance?

I thought as much. Easy to do. I suggested taking a look just to verify what you already knew, or thought you did. I've seen several posts from guys who've bought a 6.5L only to get it home and find a 6.2 - and vice-versa. At some point DoD guidance was to NOT repair the 6.2s and just...

I have the Airlift bumper and brackets, but no nuts and bolts. Need sizes...

And that MOD required knocking the bottom piece off? Could be. I have an extension I was going to keep on hand just in case, I'll take a look at it and see what the clearances are like.

    I bought a 1998 Plan B M998 yesterday

Funny you mention that, that way. I recall a post a couple weeks (month or so?) from someone who was going to pick his truck up in Utah and drive it back to what, New Jersey? Whatever happened to that guy (chime in if you're that guy). How'd the ride go? How do you like your truck? Do your...

Can someone help clarify something for me regarding model variance?

Yes, very likely/possibly. MANY of the earlier engines were changed to detuned 6.5L engines. To be certain, take a flashlight and take a picture of the RIGHT front end of the engine head, the size will be embossed there. Easiest way to tell (thanks to Retiredwarhorse).

I have the Airlift bumper and brackets, but no nuts and bolts. Need sizes...

THANK-you. I could weld a large bolt head - with a hole cross-drilled in it - to the arm and achieve the same purpose. I'll give it some thought. Again, thanks.

I have the Airlift bumper and brackets, but no nuts and bolts. Need sizes...

Return? Not, not my intent at all, Lionel. I got a feeling this part is going to be missing on a LOT of the arms - seems to be easily sheered off from my eye.

I have the Airlift bumper and brackets, but no nuts and bolts. Need sizes...

Thanks, Lionel. Sure was fun. I had some time off last week and it seemed like the time to get it done. Quick question: does the OTHER Rhino carrier have the metal tab on the BOTTOM for the arm safety pin? The pin that goes into the retaining bracket? Not blaming you or casting...

I have the Airlift bumper and brackets, but no nuts and bolts. Need sizes...

I bought a crimping tool a while back when I was making up ham radio antennas. Spool of stainless wire and ferrules has gotten use elsewhere - to make new retention wires for the "fold-down" window pins, brush guard pins, etc. What I DON'T have is the little bump on the bottom of the tire...
