You had better figure on that MPG although most get better than that. Just like any other vehicle driving conditions and habits will effect the mileage.
DOT inspection. Different states have different requirements for vehicle based on GVWR. You'll want to get on the IL DMV website and go over everything there is as far as regulations that you'll have to go through to get the truck registered. I am in the process of getting a deuce which will...
I feel sorry for the crew members that had to ride in the back of that tractor. I've been running our M41A2 around over the summer and know how loud/hot that engine gets back there. Can't imagine having to ride on top of that thing. Neat little tractor though, I'm sure it worked pretty good.
Most of the stuff that we have had come to the museum as "demilled" has been welded shut and had the power packs ripped out. The tracks haven't been touched. When I mean ripped out on the power packs I mean all they do is remove the "hard mounts" and fuel connections, hook up a crane and start...
From what I saw in IA in January all of the Deuces are upgraded to "D" engines with turbos. I don't remember seeing one of them there that was not turbo equipped (granted I didn't see them all). I also think that most (if not all) of the IA trucks are air shift and all have heaters in them...
I previewed the last set that went on sale back in January. Some of the trucks started, some of the trucks had dead batteries; your standard mix and match of maintenance. The motor pool Sgt. said that the trucks (on the January sale anyway) that stated driven onto lot were in good enough...
They're putting an entire shield on the engine just as a reminder to use the correct oil weight????? Sounds like something the gov't would do but am still having a hard time believing that is its only purpose. Thanks for the info.
Nice job ranchhopper, might be something I look into doing as well. Only thing I would do different (based on personal preference only) is kill the battery ground instead of the hot. My luck someone would be riding with me, hit the starter while they are somehow touching the hot leads of that...
When I get a deuce I'm going to put a master switch in the glove box that will kill the starter signal. If the battery master gets turned on it will only run down the battery, but atleast it won't be able to start unless someone figures out that the starter has an interrupt also.
