    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Yea WOW I don't know what to tell you. I never had that happen. Will the selling company get you the correct head. I always dislike buying parts sight unseen. But that should fall back on them. Is it a face to face deal or internet? You will be out the bolts and gaskets not to mention the time...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I have one. It has a crack in it. I removed it from a 1988 Chevrolet K3500. I ran it aground in a snow storm a few years back. Low mileage truck. I since scrapped/sold the truck after it caught fire plowing. It was fully operational but leaked.

    M1009 tailgate lock replacement question

I would remove the crank and take it to a locksmith and have a key made. I don't think the E clip will get the lock cylinder out. You need to get the lock cylinder to turn into the nuetral position and then remove it. The E clip just holds the clutch on as I remember. You need to get to the pawl...

My M1009, and wanting to know its past...

I think low 50's. Does it still have all 5 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires on it? What is the tread like? That truck was used gently by the man I built it for. Like I mentioned. He came over weekly and gave me detailed instructions on how he wanted things done. He always had a hand full of...

    Diff oil and cost effectiveness

I get the Permatex the Right Stuff in a caulk tube. The big caulk tube. It last 6 months as long as you let a swirl hang out the end and break it off before each use. it is the Right Stuff because it never leaked for me. I follow instructions. Clean oil free surfaces. Very easy to achieve. I put...

    Diff oil and cost effectiveness

I think the gentlemen was referring to resealing the differential covers. I do NOT use any gaskets anymore. I did for all my life until I tested the Permatex Right Stuff on a few of my vehicles and it worked with out failure. Of course I wire wheeled and cleaned both surfaces and applied a bead...

My M1009, and wanting to know its past...

Well that is a long story on that M1009. That was named Mean Green when I done the rebuild. That was rebuilt during 2102-2013. I do know it was driven in all sorts of winter weather after I rebuilt it. the man that I rebuilt it for was a wealthy man. He had lots of additions to the build. I had...

This Was Donated to Our VFD

That would put you up there. With the weight of the roof removed that would give you some wiggle room. I was just putting that out there cause I use mine on occasion as a wood hauler and it is very handy and capable. I did install new springs on it a few years back. huge help. Stopped that M1009...

    Terminus M1009

Fall 2017 Rausch Creek Off Road Park I posted an off road trip in the upcoming events if anyone wants to attend. IF NOT well. OK that's fine too. Good times to be had by all. Still working on a date. Like to make it a weekend. But I don't sleep over so that puts me out. I am a 1 day (Saturday)...

    Puking power steering pump?

I thought the same thing. I never heard of overheating the power steering fluid while riding the brakes. But I don't know everything yet?

    Puking power steering pump?

I thought the same thing. If it is getting run thru the oil cooler on the radiator it is getting up to 180 degrees. I doubt it ever gets that hot in stock configuration. On police cars the PS cooler is the size of a pack of cigarettes and hanging loose so air flows over the cooler. But what do I...

This Was Donated to Our VFD

I don't know. But I think I could haul a 150 gallon tank in the back of my Mule M1009. I know it hauls green wood pretty good. Still cruised it home at 55 on the highway.

Fall 2017 Rausch Creek Off Road Park

Good Morning. Looking to see if anyone is interested in an Off Road adventure at Rausch Creek Off Road Park this fall. http://rc4x4.org/ We are getting together again for a fun day in the sun or rain. Perhaps snow. What ever comes our way. Just testing the waters now and we have not set a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I just bought a not running 1988 Chevrolet with a Western plow for more then that. I want to get it running but may just sell it as is. The plow was the buying point to me. The truck meant nothing. It was a fancy pants truck back in the day. I thought 1995 Chevrolet was CUCV II or III. Or a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

$700. for a CUCV that is complete and not running. That is a steal.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

WOW $700. buys 2 New warranted for life radiators and all new hoses. Be that as it may. I skidded about 12 logs out of a field that were left behind by a logger and a friend said he wanted out of his pasture. I used the ever so faithful 1987 M1028 that just sits here as my work horse for the...

Pintle Hook Assy - tow ball

DO NOT HOOK A Bubba Rope to the D rings. They have No angular pull strength at all. They will be straight like a grab handle when you pull. They will fly and bend things. That D ring is for straight up and down lifting and tie down. They are not strong. I have pictures somewhere where the tube...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Water base paint likes air and shade to cure and harden. In the sun it stays soft. I sprayed mine outside with water base CARC about a month ago. It has since been severely muddied and pressure washed with 3000 PSI. I had a few adhesion issues at the pintle hook where grease was present and I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I think it looks great. You want pretty buy a new truck. I have a pretty one. I like pretty. But on the same note I like the rugged used look on my CUCV. Is that the latex paint? Did you paint it outside? How long did it take to get hard and dry?
