At 225K on this truck and the use and abuse I have given it I don't think I will go thru the trouble to add that rod. It just don't seem worth it anymore. If I add that it will break somewhere else anyway. Very few times do we get 40" of wet heavy snow that I can plow down to blacktop on the...
New TH400 transmission cases from GM have been discontinued for years. I bought one new GM one about 10 years ago and the last one I bought I felt like GM had acknowledged the weakness in the case and the tail section of the case was completely different then the OEM transmission. I have 3 low...
I have seen this before. The front driveshaft has a CV joint and if it drys out and the CV joint can not flex to will lock the CV joint and not be able to bend and it will push back on the transfer case and you see the results. You need the special grease fitting for your grease gun to grease...
Update the transmission case is being welded. It was just a small static crack at the rear about 3 " long. V'd it out with a carbide bit and had it welded. The other good news is I will have it back on the road for next week. The total cost was not all that bad. $1800. total R & R and over haul...
I agree it don't move much but it will move and rattle on rough roads. Did you replace the radiator isolators? If not I would advise you to do so. That old truck has a lot more bounce and flex on that core support then it did when it was designed. Good Luck. Are you still looking for OEM lines?
You are more trusting then I would be on that set up. I would be a bit more comfortable with a tube over splice or a compression fitting then that welded line. That's me. That thing breaks and that engine is "Gone in 60 Second's". Do as you wish. I am just trying to help. Good Luck. Truly.
It will just be the height of the suspension lift and still have the same lean only a little higher. Take it to a frame and alignment shop and have it properly diagnosed. You could be wasting money on everything and it has a simple fix. Frame alignment can do wonders. That thing could have been...
When you start get a complete body and spring bushing kit from Energy Suspension. You should have a torch to do this job. And wear old clothes. You will get filthy. The body mounts are going to be the worst. Soak everything you can with PB blaster or something good that breaks rust. Good Luck...
You gotta buy one of trhese because you love it and you know it will need work. I never sit down and watch football so these CUCV's are my game toys. I don't waste time drinking and partying anymore. I work on vehicles. I build vehicles for a living and have most of my life. So if you buy this...
I have a broken/cracked transmission case on Big Red M1008. It has been messing ATF in the house for several months and I dropped it off at a transmission shop to get the flex plate changed and the transmission checked out. It has not been rebuilt in 5 years and after the winter we had here last...
Are you referring to these? I have been preaching that for years. If you have any of the OEM bushings anywhere they are shot. I don't care how many miles are on it. Rubber or urethane the choice is yours. But replace them and see a world of difference. Even Terminus M1009 has new bushings and it...
True Story. I have had several of the M1009's that had this issue. IMHO I had this happen to me at Rausch Creek a few years back. Because the spare tire is mounted on that right rear corner and the other things that get jammed in behind the spare tire the jack and tools and in my case a few...
It's a shame they didn't mask off the windshield before the camo paint job.
Tape? We don't need no stinkin tape. I am a steady as a sextant when I paints me ship. ;)
I removed the ply wood dash mod a PO had installed.
That dash mod was awesome. It reminded me of the helm of a pirate ship. Shiver me timbers Mate. It has the perfect places to set me pint of ale and whiskey. It would fit in well at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. All you would need is a...
The entire system must be air tight. Nothing can leak. I mean nothing. It can leak air in at places and not make a wet spot. But the pressure switch is behind the fuel filter. Look carefully for a wet spot around the fuel filter. if it is wet with fuel anywhere it is leaking and needs to be...
Turned the M1008 frame over today and primed the top side. This side will be painted first and then flipped and the bottom side painted last. I also tore into the front axle assembly and stripped it down. I was quick to discover the steering issues that the previous owner had. He said the truck...
My guess is that it is dropping the fuel. The diesel must retain complete prime at all times to start and run properly. It could be at the injection pump. Throttle shaft seals or behind the fuel filter then it is a pressure switch that needs replaced or eliminated. But you are dropping fuel...
I still have that. I got a solar panel and and a deep cycle battery. I want to hang it on my barn and have the lights work. I am working on building some LED lights for the headlamps. i also want to put bat racks inside it so the bats can use the under side for a bat house. I will post pictures...
