Winch: What additional parts are needed?

Better and easier than making that bolt make a sleeve, 21mm long, to fit onto a std. grade 8 bolt, eventually using loctite to hold it in place. Done it, works well... G.

Winch: What additional parts are needed?

Make sure you got these: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/conversations/26449-garwood-winch-photo.html#post275929 All others are std. hardware. G.

    Fifth Chipped Teeth

...and what about the rollers inside the input shaft? And how much play for the mainshaft 5th on its sleeve? All wear adds up for the bad and it comes to uneven tooth contact (side to side of flanks), excessive backlash and material fatigue. TM 9-2520-246-34, pages 3-22 to 3-24, gives you the...

    35A3 rims

.... MPT = Multi Purpose Tyre, a system almost ignored (???) for decades in the US but certainly not a mystery in Europe, especially not for the Unimog crowd and fire & rescue vehicles in general... G.

    35A3 rims

.... right there where the search button is!:p Type in: MPT wheels and start reading...! Somewhere there you will learn that for the A3 wheels the 15.5R20's are as "wrong type tires" as the 395/80R20's are! The only MIL tire sizes currently available as surplus that would qualify as...

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

Right on, Clint; very likely that is the case. Usually solved by adjusting the lenght of the (adjustable) connecting link assy between PTO-shift lever and -shift rod. G.

    Fifth Chipped Teeth

Hey Tom, prob. remove what, the PTO.....? I don't think so. Remember it only engages the reverse idler gear and that you can leave in place anyways. :ditto: G.

    drag link questions

Gasser draglink is 5/8" longer (at the st.knuckle end). Everything else is the same for both. Nominal ball diameter is 1-1/4" (measuring exactly 1.244") Shank diam. (on steering arm ball stud) is threaded 5/8"-11, cone starts at little over 3/4" and goes up to 7/8" max. G.

5 ton control arms on a deuce

Forget them, they won't fit. Besides the length everything else of a 5ton "dogbone" is about 1.5x the size of the Deuce's! G.

    Fifth Chipped Teeth

FWIW that is a 3053 overdrive. Pictured is the countershaft, with the bad 5th in the center, 3rd and 2nd to the right and the countershaft driven gear to the left (barely to be seen). The largest gear on the 3053 countershaft is 5th, vs the 3052 where the driven gear is larger than "5th" (which...

    Part # Help???? FSN number

Measure the U-joint: the winch driveschaft takes two of them, 1310 series (outside snap ring style), 3.219" over caps and 1.062" bearing cap diameter. Or post a pic to compare.... G.

    Steering box replacement time!

World is not lost....those rivets sheared from the impact, nothing else... they are softer material than it appears and may work loose anyways after decades of abuse. It is common practice to replace those rivets with 7/16" grade 8 bolts, for which the holes need to be bored over accordingly...

    Winch Lever Spring?

That was THE one in one million event....! prolly never again, at least not without a metal detector! :-) Glad you solved your problem that way, that quick! G.

    6x6 front axle wont engage

That would make a nice powerplant combo for sure! I think that the DT466 is a tad longer than the MF but heard saying it fits... not clear if that allison needs more room, to have to move the TC back some? Keep us posted with your progress, we all need to learn...! G.

    Demensions for Box seat cushions

Both sections fit inside the frame which is 18-5/8", internal width. Corners are rounded to a radius of 3". Stock cushion plywood board dimensions are shown below. For the backrest a piece of high density foam, 2" thick, would do, provisorily glued or taped in place. IMHO you don't need any...

    6x6 front axle wont engage

Hello Craig and welcome! This is what I didn't know when I started over 20 years ago with a '52 gasser and there was no SS-Forum..... By design the Sprag TC automatically engages the front axle drive any time the rears are slipping a certain percentage. So the somewhat "limited" 6x6...
