to be added to the list above....
Winch shift shaft seal dimensions: 0.75 x 1.25x 0.25
National/Timken #470954 or #7443 for C-R/SKF
G.
EDIT: Actual shaft diameter is .688" (11/16"), NOT .075" Seal dimensions are 0.688" x 1.25" x 0.25"
Catalog numbers for a (recommended) double lip seal...
Yes, same for both styles, 4.5 inches. (pic#1)
Compare position of bolt holes (pic#2)... your extensions are OK, while the frame is odd in that it is drilled farther forward. Even so I would re-drill the extensions like Kenny suggested.
Also, instead of washers you could use a piece of flat...
The shaft is already twistet and prob. won't last to long....

Guess we all want exactly that........:-)
I can give you the part#s and specs for the seals if that helps. You will find them in all popular brands but..... how to know where they really come from?
And YES please, a GOOD source, at least for the little rubber boots![thumbzup]
G.
Yes, the edges prob. having some nicks and burrs and make it a little to tight... a file helps...!
Tighten nuts crosswise, ensure gap remains even all around . While bolting the spindle down in place (its called the knuckle...) rock the axle shaft in and out to make sure nothing is binding...
Sorry Rick, don't know how I missed your post...?
Better than any long explanation just take a look at the pics....
It looks as if the stock shaft was intentionally designed to twist/shear at the groove, maybe kind of a pre-engineered revenge for when brutal force was applied at the...
:ditto:
.....unless you don't like the fact that the rear wheels will be sticking about 1" farther out compared to the fronts...
Technically speaking not a problem, just an esthetic question, IMHO.

:) ...... a number.......?
actually used to designate the 5th direct transmissions in the gasser M35s
I did search.......

:ditto:
Those wheels mentioned are for LT (= light truck) tires, with the bead flange height being about 3/4".
395s (like most other 20" heavy truck type tires, military or not) are designed for std. industrial wheels. Flange height for a 20x10" size wheel is 2".

New to manual transmissions also....:?:
Just in case..... take a look inside and examine the little dogs on the synchro where they engage 5th gear. Compare with the pics below (showing a new part vs. the same presenting extreme wear). 5th gear condition can be better checked after removing/...
From their catalog:
1/2"-20, 10.5" L: 1/2"-20 x 10-1/2" Plain Finish SAE J429 Grade 8 Hex Cap Screw | Fastenal
5/8"-18, 11" L:5/8"-18 x 11" Plain Finish SAE J429 Grade 8 Hex Cap Screw - TAA Certified | Fastenal
They even have the 5/8"s in 10.5"L but for some reason want to sell you 5 of...
:ditto:Good observation, 12" bolts are to long!
Stock lenght for both size long bolts actually is 10-1/2", threaded portion is 1.5-2 inches.
11" long bolts are commonly available and eventually they can be shortened if it HAS to look right... :-)
G.
Don't forget these are not for the winch itself, but for the vehicle towing AND lifting brackets! Also you will find out that for the bracket's rearmost holes you need the long bolts (5/8"diam.) anyways since the spacers on the frame extensions are welded in! With the bolts going all the way...
My 2cents info may come a bit late this time but here it is anyways....
Helical spring: O.D. = 4.5mm, free lenght 14mm, wire diam. 0.75mm
Ball bearing diam. = 5.5mm
And there is a reason....
1) for the two grooves being shaped differently .....:-)
2) also to find the original pin replaced...
