Okay, update-
Sarge is in Flagstaff, the bike is ailing, pushing it further may cause major damage, so with discretion being the better part of valour....
I am departing at 0-dark-30 to pick up Sarge and the bike. He wants to sit on the bike on the trailer and squint so as to not re-e-e-ally...
Okay, Sarge made it across Death Valley. He is alive and well.
Of course, being a Sarge trip, it has not been without 'entertainment', but you will have to await his post-trip report to hear the details.
Updates as they come in.
Cheers.
Dave, I sent a lengthy answer to your PM, but looks like you found the info already. Sorry, I work late, so I'm slow getting on the board! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Cheers
That looks like a super truck, well done! And 12k km is outstanding.
Your rear cab window looks cloudy. Mine was too, couldn't see through it. I used some polish called Novus 2 (red label) and a lot of elbow grease, when I was done it looked absolutely brand new clear. Same with the side...
Well, I'm trying to get a fire going, but there's no smoke to signal with!
He went down to visit a buddy near LA over the weekend, should have hit the road for home this morning. He really does not call much when he travels.
His girlfriend doesn't do cell phones either, so I will call her...
Cool site, nice to know they are still on the net. I got 'em from someone else years ago, but he and his V100 website disappeared into the noogesphere at some point.
Cheers
I agree B3. Being a photo on a computer, and not a high quality one at that, the colours shown should be considered suspect. That V100 has the basic concept right though- black "y" patterns over green with brown patches, but the proportions are off.
I don't know that there was an official 383...
Thanks B3.3T, good info.
The early V100s had two forward vision ports, reduced to one later (at hull # 596) for reasons of strength in that part of the hull. Mine is also an early hull but has all other features of later production. There are records that show mine going through depot level...
Ahh...mine is Swiss so it has no swing-fire up front or gladhands in the back. I can see how those would all get in the way.
David, glad you got the shipping worked out. We are waiting for pictures, lest you get the much dreaded but often posted "this thread is worthless..." bit! You are...
Thanks Offroad. The V100 is literally my "dream car" and it took me many many years (20?) of wanting and dreaming and looking to find the one I got. Absolutely no way could I afford the nice ones that are for sale now. I had pretty much given up and was actually intending to purchase another...
Cool, thanks for posting those DSO. The first one is a lot like mine, an early hull with some later style features. Looks like it is in really nice shape.
I don't know if those are close to you, but if so, the next time you are there could you get the hull numbers off them? It is stamped in...
On the front there is room to run the chains around the frame just behind the bumper. Also, though I have seen it done, I wouldn't try using the pin in the front bumper to chain it down.
Cheers
Sarge is just trying to make sure you are doing things for the right reasons and are adequately prepared to make your decision. He is a retired First Sergeant, he knows a thing or two about guiding young folks in the military ways.
And even if it is in writing, it still may not be so. I...
Dave, I'll go by my shop wednesday or thursday and measure mine for you.
Like Mike said, DON'T tow it with an axle on the road. Max speed for towing one like that is 25mph and only for short distance.
Cheers
Sarge, ya silly bugger, you need neither own nor know how to operate a cell phone to flag someone down and get THEM to call me! Most passing folks will have them...
Thanks Sam.
Elwenil, do NOT tempt me with such talk!
There was actually a version that had a 440 in it before they went ahead and moved to diesel power. While this version is quite spirited for an armoured vehicle, I'm told the 440 version fairly screamed down the road. By that I mean...
Does anyone know what these tabs welded to the side of the turret are for?
They are the same on both sides. There is a tiny hole drilled through the turret armour, you can see it above the vision port about half way between the tab and the right edge of the glass. It is just big enough to...
