The engine is in the back left corner. It is an M75, basically a militarized Chrysler 361 that was common in trucks back then, and the same engine as the early M113s. The engine is mounted "backwards", as in the fan is at the rear, the transmission is forward of the motor, then the transfer case...
JimK sent me a picture of one with that foul weather hood installed. It does indeed look rather odd, particularly since the turret is missing. But I imagine looks don't count for much if you are driving a convertible with snow blowing in your face!
It would have to be for secure environments...
Yep, the USAF E2s are really cool too. There are a couple of very nice ones for sale right now, but wow are they pricey! Here is a pic of one of them. I can't remember where I found it on the net, so I can't give credit to the owner of the picture.
Another interesting variation that...
Yes. He takes gallons and stirs them up all nice and smooth, then pours the paint into the machine and injects it into the cans. Much smaller setup than I thought it would be, fits in the corner of a room. But the result is spray paint that exactly matches your gallons.
Cheers
Thanks. It's been number 1 on my list since day 1, and a very long time in coming. I remember several years ago sitting in the back of Sarge's deuce at a show, drinking tea and telling him my pipedream of owning a V100 and an 800 series 5-ton to haul it around behind.
A year later I had the...
Okay, I will be the ninth man (wish I could say that like they did in The 13th Warrior). I'll back it up with a deposit if need be.
CliffW, where in the world did you get that avatar?? NONE of my fellow Marines looked like that!
Cheers
I haven't dealt with Milspray, but have used Rapco's paint extensively over several years with very good results. Mark fills the rattle cans himself from gallons (neat to watch) so they match nicely.
Cheers
Thanks Tim. It will be a few weeks before it is ready to move, I'm going to be re-e-e-al familiar with that drive by then!
Be safe on your travels. I'm looking forward to finally seeing your deuce. If it's anything like your M715, it should be a beaut.
I figured we needed one of these for...
That may have been when we were talking about the 5-tons. I made a simple wooden slide rail out of deck lumber so I could slide an M820 boarding ladder into the slot under the back of my M813. The ISO bed on those and the 900 series has a hatch in the back to allow stowing of the drop sides...
Sarge, this is all your fault you know! I go to my buddy and say "I need objective advice, talk sense into me". What do I get? Picture, if you will, a very large fellow running around in circles shouting "Buy it! Buy it!" :D
Cdub, your avatar looks like me driving home from Houston...
I have read that Detroit PD were temporarily loaned several V-100s for riot duty around that time. They were destined for the S. Vietnamese, but got used in Detroit for a bit first. I am at work now, but I'll look at my books when I get home, I think that info is in Rick Lathrop and John...
Here is another neat little item that came with it, a foul weather hatch cover with a windshield wiper no less. With both drivers hatches open this fits in the raised ring and seals onto the weather strip. The two end panels are cracked, but easy to replace.
I imagine it would look a bit odd...
I thought it was a Jaguar engine? I gather they are really zippy and fun to drive, and fast.
Sweet acquisition Bowman! Gotta love wheeled armour...
Cheers
Yep, that's why I asked here. I couldn't figure out what that 8x8 was, but knew one of you guys would.
I gather this was based on the V-3/600. It has a small hatch in the right forward hull that the others don't have, goes into the drivers compartment.
It has an adjustable height suspension...
Here are a couple more from yesterday.
The tires are the Commando Special run-flats in brand new condition. No aging or cracking, still have the moulding 'hairs' on the tread.
The only thing it is missing is the winch.
Edit, pic captions:
1- Drivers area, wiring going in
2- Looking in left...
Thanks guys, and thanks for posting that Bjorn, I had seen the first page before but not the rest. I tried to get a copy of that PS on Ebay a while back, but it went for over $70.
I think it is funny that I looked for a V100 for so long, then got one that was only 140 miles from me. In US...
The simplified story- This is ASVs (M1117) grandfather. From this they developed the V150 with 5-ton axles, and a diesel in the later ones. That led to the V150S with the slightly lengthened hull (18" between the wheels) and other improvements, which was then developed into the M1117 with...
Well, I finally got my dream vehicle, what I have lusted for since I first saw them in service back in the early '80s. Today I bought this.
It has had all the really serious work done already (stripped to hull and components, sandblasted, primed and painted inside, primed outside). Lots of...
I've not seen anything with that many vision ports on it before.
Coincidentally, earlier today I was looking at this vehicle. It has slots for 7 wide periscopes in that lip around the upper front hull. There were three facing forward and two at diagonals on each side. Neat vehicle, if...
