I was looking a my m49 parts truck today (mainly the t-case PTO). I'm planning on using the PTO on my M35 to power hyd for my dump conversion. I noticed that the linkage has a interlock so the PTO will only go into gear with the t-case in nuteral. This could be a problem with my dump because I...
Gimpy, I made it a little easier to get "the goods" today :-D.
I've heard people say the cab removal is a piece of cake but I fought with this thing half a day. I even had the help of the "smoke wrench" on the rusted bolts (because the cab is junk) but it was still alot of work.
Most bases will let you drive them out but if you don't go and inspect it before auction it's a crap shoot. The GL discriptions can't be trusted as to the running/driving condition of the trucks.
Don't know what the deal is with that but it wouldn'd be a '70s truck being a gasser and I think they only buit M59s in the early years. Maybe somebody swapped out the dash at some point.
Edit- Went back and looked at the pics. I think that's the data plate for the hardtop.
Even if you are dead set on selling the truck it would still pay you to get it running. Non-running is really going to hurt the selling price. The truth of the matter is you'll make more money parting it out than you would selling it as it sits.
Gimpy, I'm sure it would work fine with just one axle welded and lockouts on said axle. Wonder how much it would help in mud with the other axle open though.
If you had lockout hubs on all the axles your truck wouldn't move with the hubs unlocked. The only way the truck could travel is to just unlock one side. This would make cornering a little unstable and would make the truck pull to one side when going down the road. Guess you could alternate the...
:ditto:
I belive it's time to get some bigger cylinders. I tried to pick up a multi with trans attached with my MF40 backhoe. It's rated at 3,000lbs lift but it wouldn't budge it. It just stalled. Either the engine/trans combo weighs more than I think or the pump or the relief valve is weak
As far as the front springs go, It won't really matter if you get the frame hot because if the truck was any good you wouldn't be removing the front springs . That being said, I don't think you will get the frame that hot and I've welded and cut on truck frames (shortning or lengthening...
If I was you I'd keep the hyd motor. You could run a pump off the PTO. Hyd winches are much more controlable than PTO winches. I'll take it if you don't want too much for it  because I'm already adding a hyd pump for my dump.
Over time the bed rails will rub and wear the frame rails if wood is not installed. It also cuts down on the noise of the bed movement when the frame flexes. I've seen plenty of dumps without the wood though.
Because that only works with trucks built between '68-'72. In '72 they went to the "NK" numbering system and that system doesn't have the year included. Another problem could be a wrong data plate. Notice I said "if the data plate is right". The registration number won't be found on the frame...
I haven't bought that many things either but I've bid on probably 100s. Maybe they just go by how much you bid because with every winner they need a bunch of bidders to make the winner pay top dollar .
No. The "71" is accually in the registration number and indicates the date of manufacture. The truck (according to the data plate) was contracted in 1970 indicated by the "05" in the serial number.
AZ, First unscrew the bleeder on top of the secondary fuel filters and make sure you've got...
I know what you're saying about the mutifuel not being able to handle it but it's a "gearhead's" nature to try and get more HP out of any engine. If the multifuel turned out 1,000hp stock there would be people on here trying to get 2,000hp out of it :-D. Or atleast "arm chair" engine building.
It's not a '52 Jeep. Jeep didn't make them in '52. If the data plate in the pics match the frame number it's a '71.
If the truck is indeed a '52 it started it's life as a gasser and should have fenders that has a "shelf" inside the engine compartment.
