Gimpy, Does he mean 5 Ton as in a 10,000lb winch or as in a winch off a 5 ton truck? From what I'm gathering he means a 10,000lb (which equals 5 tons) winch off a deuce but I could be wrong.
I wonder if you can get 9/32 rod. Kind of a odd size. If not you could turn down some bigger rod but it would be alot easier if you could find the correct size and people could make them that didn't own a lathe. If I think about it I'll talk to my supplier and find out.
I just want to say thanks for all the replies and ideas from everyone. I know every state is different but this info gives me a place to start and see what will work and what won't.
If you drill it out make sure you get your hole in the center. I have drilled bolts completely out without damaging the threads but you've got to have your bit perfectly centered and take your time. Once you get to the threads just take a pick and pull out the bolt threads.
Use two buckets next time. Take the lid off one and after your oil has drained into it use your funnel and pour the oil out of the open top bucket into the one with the lid . Even with the screen out I doubt the funnel can handle it as fast as it runs out.
Sounds like the pics trump the description in the reply you got but it goes on to say that they don't guarantee anything.
I'd say calling the site and asking the guys there won't get you very far either. While there are some good guys at the GL sites I don't think they know much about what...
Everything I've ever bought from GL has the event and lot number on it with a black or white marker. If that info matches your paperwork you're good to go. If it doesn't you've got a moral dilemma as scooter says.
Dj, You may be on to something there. I'll check it out.
HeadWizard, From what I've read from the GL site is I would have had to done that before I bid and won the truck.
While $900 is a heck of a deal, a deuce won't bring that in scrap at the current prices. Back in July a deuce would bring $1800 for scrap but now you'll get about $500.
I bought a m1008 from GL for my brother. He doesn't know much about computers or GL in general so I told him to pick out what he wanted and tell me how much he wanted to pay and I would bid for him. I bid on a truck and won at Redstone, he paid me, we went and picked it up, and all is good. When...
Be carefull with heat on the AL winch housing. You can tell when steel gets too hot but you won't know with AL untill it's puddled up on the floor . This is a common problem because steel bolts in AL will alot of times corrode really bad. When you do get the out be sure to use anti-sieze...
They make a teflon cover that will work in place of grease if you ever plan on pulling a trailer. Our trucks at work just have grease but it does make a mess, grease finally gets on just about everything on the back of the truck. If not just paint it but I'd hate to know I had a 5th wheel and...
I had a IH road tractor with a 250 Cummins. I decided to strait pipe it. It was cool for about the first five miles but after that it was just hurting my ears. About the only thing louder is a 671 Detroit with no mufler.
You could take it to a driveshaft shop and have them cut out the bent part and weld in new but I'm sure it would be cheaper to find a replacement. I would guess that a shaft off a civilain truck would work but I'm not sure.
I understand everyones concerns about stopping ablity but any truck of any size isn't going to stop as well as a empty truck. Bottom line is you've got to know enough about your equipment and driving skills with any load you haul. This is more important than how much you load your rig because...
