I'm trying really hard to get my deuce to where it feels as well maintained and reliable as a daily driver. Even then, I still want to work on it less and do more :driver:
You are very welcome. Honestly, one of my main points in taking so much time to post on SteelSoldiers is I hope I can help...
In all seriousness:
Not every person's end use or goal is the same. I changed my tires for a number of reasons:
Availability of tires (MV stuff is harder to come by and more expensive where I live, and suddenly the G177's were available for me at a price I could agree too)
Winter traction...
When the Admins get time, I would like to request that the 5-ton TM forum gets cleaned up:
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?115-5-ton-and-up-TMs
There are 2 separate threads for M809 TMs:
One started by sigo on 03-27-2013 and then appended to by Warthog on 03-13-2014
Another...
I want to change my deuce's speedometer adapter (the 90 degree elbow between the transfer case and the speedometer cable) so that my speedometer would read closer to accurate with the new 11.00R20's - without paying a shop to re-gear the stock adapter.
However, I had to get out the shovel and...
It doesn't hold nearly as much reserve fluid as all ya'lls, but I went with the more common clear plastic reservoir, and mounted it nearly in the same place as welldigger:

I did...
Using a hand held propane torch (you know, on of those blue bottle torches) to heat up the surrounding axle housing and a 4lb sledge, I still was not able to move the pin any. I used a can of compressed air to try and cool down the pin too (I turned the can upside-down to spray out the colder...
Also, the largest tire covers that I could easily find, fit very well too, albeit a bit tight around the square shoulders of the tread.
Ultra Tyre Gard
for 43"-45", white
$50 shipped (unfortunately about twice the cost of the tire covers I had for the NDTs)...
From the inspiration of peashooter putting the 395's on his M105 trailer, I wanted my M105 trailer to run the same tires as my deuce. The Goodyear G177's fit great! Since there is no hub on the axle to for the wheel to rest on, I recommend a crow bar (I used a 42" one from Lowes) to help lift...
I did want to show that I don't think I did too bad with the material removal on the leaf spring perch, using only a hand held 90 degree grinder and a bastard file (the same file I use to sharpen my axes and lawn mower blade). As can be seen, I have a couple of points that are just a touch too...

Haha, welcome to the life changing hobby! I spent about 9 months of an LDS mission in 29 Palms back in 2002/2003. I miss the people and the Marines. I still haven't went back for a visit, though I want to.
I also found an image of a 1955 MB2 on this website (from 2007):

Congratulations! And I'm sorry you're now invested into a life changing "green disease".
I assume the truck was through a GovPlanet auction? I do not believe that you can pick up the truck until the EUC paperwork clears. Sooo, judging by what others on the site here report, you may be able to...
I saw a truck around here that had very large nuts on the rear end. Actual hexagonal, threaded nuts on looped cable. The suckers had to be from like light poles or something, they appeared to be at least 6" in diameter.
Nothing unsafe here, but goes to show the low quality (as if we didn't already know). I purchased a 30 ton bottle jack from Harbor Freight for use with my deuce (yes, I wanted over kill because I figured it could only actually handle, at best, 1/2 to 1/4 of that!). I have only used it just this...
