Best part is that those two little clips that "ride the slot" in the window is something that even an old "ham-fisted" guy can remove or put back. That way the younger folks won't lose those clips...

Welcome to the Outfit!
Sounds to me like you have the info you need and experience too. Having your boys help with the restoration will be a nice adventure for sure. Old dad can help them turn the wrenches - and eventually earn the right to drive "the new toy".
Keep us pictured up with...

Maybe some mesh like the passenger side has on it... ?
To kinda protect the horn and "hide" it.
Especially if you don't plan to put lights beside the bell of the horn.

I would imagine that there is a section of the TM's that explains the cab tilt process. The thing to do - book or not - is to be sure that you manually block the cab in the raised position. We had one of our members get caught with his head between the cab and the motor. Almost lost him...

Welcome to the Outfit!
Wow. Really happy to hear that your New-To-You truck was able to be cranked off and move under its own power! If you haven't already, drop down on the concrete and check out your gearboxes for proper amounts of fluid in them. Grab hold of the drive shafts and push up...

Some of the Home Depot stores have no problems. Some of the others just have folks that work in the paint department "that just ain't right bright". Thankfully your was one of the good storys. Good for you!
Looks like you are making good progress!

Crawl under it and push and pull on the drive shafts. And while you are at it, do the same to the half-shafts that power the wheels. Universal joints shouldn't be loose or wiggly. If you are good on the engine part - the drive train is where you need to focus.

It's not possible to see the tires on your trailer in the picture you attached. Maybe snap another so we can read the lettering on the tire?
Those rims don't appear "special" from this angle.
Unless I miss my guess, no special equipment is required to mount 235/85R-16 tires other than a...

@Coug is definitely "on the money" with a blower fan in the pipeline to the outside. We installed a UV coating machine in the print shop with about 30 feet of pipe to the outdoors. Adding a "squirrel cage fan" about half way up the pipe greatly improves the exhausting efficiency.
The...

Welcome to the Outfit!
So, with a diesel smoke tells you a lot. White Smoke and Black Smoke mean something. White generally tells you that the temperature in the combustion chamber is too low. This can happen when either there is raw diesel fuel that passes through to the exhaust, engine...

Worthy of Consideration...
Those four switches.
Your left knee if you are in a head-on collision.
Bad MoJo! In a big way...
Think about what would happen if your truck "became much shorter" front to back. If the space that the human occupies gets crushed those switches will chew up your...

Put what you think the least he might take in your right pocket. Put a little more in a couple of other pockets if you want to negotiate up. And if he's really a pothead, maybe you can talk to him when he has bloodshot eyes...

Welcome to the Outfit!
Snap us a few pictures of your new-to-you trailer so the rest of us can oogle it. Pix will be a good way to see your progress. Time to do a little maintenance like wheel bearing grease and checking out the brakes too. TM's are in the trailer section for pictures of...

Everybody has an opinion, but if you know you had two bad GP's and replaced them - and you tested and the others are functioning - I'm not sure if it was my money I would replace working GP's.

I do have a ten cent question...
You have done well grasshopper - but what about this paint? You are going to stick another 4 tires onto those Budd inner nuts. You will of course paint the rims on the inside so they don't rust. Then the new lug nuts, then paint everything.
What's gonna...

You could be dead nut level with the fill plug and be okay,
OR
You could reach in with your finger (bend the first nuckle) and touch oil and still be perfect too. That measurement would be about a half inch down.

If you can get hooked up with a LSO (Landing Signals Officer) getting some real operational details would be useful. If nothing shows up here, Ward Carroll on YouTube could be a contact. @WardCarroll
He is on your side of the country and he has several contacts had that job on assorted...

Welcome to the Outfit!
Come on now... Don't be bashful. Pictures. More Pictures! This will be a great spot for you to chronicle your vehicle as you build it out.
You may want to download the manuals for your new-to-you truck too.
This particular truck is part of the 939 Series.
