Today was LED day. Went out this morning and replaced my stock headlights with the new LED headlights we ordered from an SS member. Very easy installation! (Removed 3 wires, 3 nuts, replaced fixture, installed 3 nuts, installed wires in the same pattern and test.)
The marker lights in the...
I started out today by finishing installing the super rope on the front and back corners of the cargo cover. While i was working on that the mailman came with the package containing the door locks I ordered. Installed the door locks. Now I can lock the cab! I was going to pressure-wash the...
Today I went to the local ACE Hardware store to pick up some 5/16" x 1-1/2" round headed bolts for assembling my bows. I tried Home Depot but they didn't have any. The ACE HWR store had them in regular and stainless steel. $0.33 for the regular steel and $0.40 for the stainless steel. I got...
I went with 4 batteries in case I need the extra capacity for tools or accessories while parked. Also, I bought them as reconditioned from the distributor and only paid $40 plus tax each. So i paid less than it would have cost me for 2 new ones locally! It was actually fun doing all the...
Thanks Mike!
OK today I finished the battery support brackets. I had to cut openings on the edges of the angles so they don't block the vent tubes on the sides of the batteries. I took some pictures of the side view to show the cut grooves. I could have welded the over-cuts but I don't think...
Today I decided to tackle the battery supports. Since the original supports will not fit I decided to make new ones. I wanted to use the j-bolts that came with the battery supports. Upon close inspection i came to a conclusion that I could use the center j-bolt location to attach the new...
Yesterday I decided to tackle the battery installation as well as a cut -off switch and Battery Equalizer installation. Since they all involved wiring the batteries I think it was best to do them all together -so I don't have to redo any of the work involved.
I started by going to the welding...
I got the hard top installed last Friday. Came out pretty good. I need to add some anchoring points in the front corners to pull the top down more. There is light coming from the those corners because the top a dipping towards the middle of the windshield. This causes the corners to go up...
Tire size 14.00-20's. You should be able to find them already mounted on 5 ton rims. CSM Davis in MS has them in stock I believe. He is a member here. PM him.
Nice truck! Just got mine from Ft. Polk a week ago. You were lucky you got yours from Polk instead of Pineville. Pineville has the worst security for the GL trucks (out of all the locations i have been to!) Notorious for parts being stolen from the trucks while waiting for pickup. Ft. Polk...
Nice truck. As far as the 5th wheel and stuff you need. Contact CSM Davis in MS. He has those available at good prices. (Should have one from the truck we are converting to a dumper)
Can someone post the length of the boards that make up the bows for the 5 ton cargo trucks. I bought some new bow corners from Saturn surplus, but I need to fabricate the wood pieces that go between the bow corners.
I plan to use 5/4 pressure treated lumber for the vertical pieces and...
I had to scrap the rim from my Deuce's spare tire due to access rust at the split ring joint. The way the spare tire is stored it allows water to sit at the rim where the ring is. Water bad for rim! I did not want to take a chance that the ring would let go due to not seating properly.
