OK now I'm confused. I thought you said your injection lines where plugged and rusted ? Now your saying it is in the Hydraulic Head ? If it is the Hydraulic Head then you must completely disassemble it and clean out all those little passages from the "plunger" to the individual injection lines...
I figured it had to be something like that. Your gauges where just to bright for just changing out the bulbs or extending the lens. Thanks for sharing this ! I will be on eBay looking for some tonight !
If your lines are blocked due to rust then get some good used lines ! It is not worth the cost and damage you will do to your injectors. Plus now the lines will be weaker then normal and can potentially burst ! You don't want that in your engine compartment ! Or worse yet, getting yourself or...
I forgot to add. Don't use "synthetic" oil until your new rings are broken in. Us a good 5-30W standard oil. Also when you first start-up, load the generator to at least 80% . Keep it at this for at least two hours. Four hours would be better if you can. Then shut-off the unit and drain the oil...
It is hard to judge the condition of your piston rings and piston. You need to totally clean it, and then check for "scuffing" marks. The bore has signs of scuffing and needs a good honing. I'm pretty sure you don't need a rebore, just new rings and a good honing and you will be back up and...
So you actually didn't revive your glow plugs you bypassed the voltage step-down. That is not reviving the glow plugs. Granted I never felt those monster resistors where really needed or safe. My engine compartment caught fire from them also. Stupid design in my opinion.
If you have no ridge at the top of the bore then a good "ball" hone will do just fine. Just get a ball home that is larger then 78mm. Use a good honing oil and keep a steady up and down motion going. Once you see a good crosshatch pattern emerge then stop honing.
It's hard to tell from your pictures, but it looks like you have some cylinder "glazing" going on there. It would be a good idea to remove the piston and run a good ball hone down there. Clean-up the piston and check for "glazing" on the sides of it. Then some new rings and bearings and your...
I forgot to answer your earlier question about "copper-spray a gasket" . I wound not use it if you go with some good "Perma-torque Fel-Pro" head gaskets. Now if your using some cheap gaskets or plain "steel" gaskets then yes I would use it.
I've never heard of anyone really reviving a dead glow-plug. I've heard of "stories" that they said it worked but I have never seen it. Even if by some miracle you got it to work for a few more days, is that really worth all that effort ?
I agree about the window. I already ordered a tinted one from LMC trucks along with a new rubber molding. Home Depot has not contacted me yet, but I'm not worried. It only has cost me around $200.00 dollars. Plus I did find that rusted area ! There are a few pin holes that will need to be...
Actually I was sitting in the truck when it happened ! I was looking down when WHAM !!! Glass everywhere ! It didn't hurt me thankfully, just a few cuts on my hands from sweeping the glass off my seat. I should have been out there watching what those knuckleheads where doing.
Actually I was really lucky. The decking never touched the cab at all. Just the window. I also found some rust after taking out the window molding. So a little clean-up and paint, new molding and glass and good to go !
Totally agree with Ahab here. A good "dry" run is always needed to get the bugs out. Love your family too ! Your a "blessed" man to have three good sons !
I was using my M1028 to get some "Trex" decking today at Home Depot. Well the forklift driver sent the package straight through my rear window ! Glass everywhere !!! Spent hours cleaning up the mess. At least I have a nice breeze through the cab now ! They said insurance would pay for it, though...
