    Request M35A2 Retrieval info

Like gimpyrobb said, call them. George will most likely answer and he can get you almost anything for the deuce. They don't list anything on their website so you need to call. I just ordered three sets of steering sector shafts and bearings and shims. You cannot find those on any other website...

Never ceased to be amazed by the deuce.

I was one of the last mechanics to go through the old Washington State apprenticeship program which ended in the 1970's. That was a great program. You had to work 8 hours every day and go to night school for 2 hours every night. Four hours on Friday. You worked with a 10 year plus journeyman for...

    86' M1008 - Contemplating Chevy 350 engine swap

That's an old time mechanics trick for all types of things like heads, water pumps, injection pumps etc...... I still have a complete set of bolts (from 1/4" to 3/4" fine and course thread) with the heads cut off and a slot cut in the end for a screw driver to remove it after "whatever" is...

Help finding trans mounts and support bracket

To find the brace/support rod you will need to go to eBay or shot "cucvrus" a PM . I believe he still has one for sell. The transmission mounts you can get almost anywhere. I used Summint Racing and went with "polyurethane" mounts.

Never ceased to be amazed by the deuce.

I got a good one for you guys ! We had a new mechanic come over to our base (there are 7 bases at the Transit agency) and he was working in the inspection pit next to me. A few hours later he tried to start-up the Detroit Diesel he was working on. It wouldn't start at first so he gave it some...

    M109A2 having brake issues

I have talked with the shop foreman at "Precision Rebuilding" about our air-pacs. They are one of the few main rebuilders out there that even touches our air-pacs or the dual master cylinders. They perform complete rebuilding of the air-pacs and one of the things they do on all rebuilds is ream...

UGGGHHHH !!!! I suffer from "sleep paralysis" , thankfully not every day. I can wake up, but I'm unable to move for several seconds to minutes. The worst is if I fall asleep on the couch and my head falls down to my chest closing off my air pipe. I cannot move and cannot breathe !!! So I take...

    Making a compression tester adapter?

It used to be that "real" mechanics adjusted the valves while the engine was running. That way the temperature was stable and the lash would be correct for the engine. About in the 1970's that all pretty much stopped. There really isn't much difference between a warm engine and a cold engine...

    Six Blade 20" Fan

Wow ! So Black Canyon is a city now. I went to trade school in Phoenix in the 1970's and remember driving on I17 to Black Canyon. There was just a gas station and a few homes here and there.

6.2 detroit - am i in deep kim chee ??? Valve problems...

Just like everyone else has already pointed out, that is just "casting flash" . When you go and rebuild an engine, one of the things you do is go and grind off and sand all the "casting flash" or "over casting". That way there is no obstruction to the oil flow and also no chance of a piece of...

    Injection pump oil hose

This is just a message to all members here. If you haven't replaced your injection pump hoses then get a set from Gimpyrobb now. Ever pump I tore down and inspected had bad hoses. They looked great on the outside, but the inside was breaking down. Also be careful when removing the line on the...

    hub torque spec. M35A2

No, not inch pounds. On these larger bearings you want to get them seated. On "MAN" busses we have to torque them to 300 ft Ibs. to properly seat the bearings. Now I never actually use a torque wrench (except on the MAN buses) just a large breaker bar to seat the bearings. Then back off until...
